  1. I often use Edith and the kingpin from river herbie Hancock very dense layers of sax drums bass and of course Tina turner central stage
  2. That’s great to hear! Now I need to save for an exakt katalyst box thingy 😀
  3. Well at the start of the pandemic our PM announcing the lockdown finished with "wash your hands and be kind". Now that you Northern Hemisphere lot are entering into Spring / Summer I think we should continue to take her advice even though it is a little pollyannish. I know the damn bug is still rampant and although I can only imagine what It's like to live in some parts of the globe, I feel our PMs advice holds true. In recent times I haven't seen examples of the tone present in this thread in the Linn club. Life's too short, we have so much in common, so let's be kind.
  4. I’m looking at a possibility of adding an Lp12 to my sources having recently upgraded my Adsm with katalyst I am a complete newbie when it comes to turntables of any sort apart from using them 40 years ago! can anyone advise me about what age this lp12 is and it’s approximate value? Linn Sondek LP12 Transcription Turntable. With Pro-Ject Carbon Tonearm & Adikt cartridge many thanks
  5. Good thought but mine are all bonafide factory ones. Just listening to riding with the king on qobuz in 192. Superb. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I have one 5125D it has a treble card and a bass card. The bass card is driving all 4 bass speakers . Much better than having an LK140 with another bass card. I used to have 3 LK140s so tri aktive. 5125 more than capable of excellent bass to all 4 speakers. See my other post for my OW1 comparisons. Its very wet here in Nelson and so have indulged in some HiFi comparisons and put gardening on hold.
  7. see linkhttps://www.hiquphon.dk/page4.html I found him great to deal with. Make sure you specify they are for ninkas as he provides the surround to fit exactly. He also gives soldering instructions. It's all good as they say:-)
  8. I have 1 x 5125 Yes silvers are still on the amp interconnects I have only changed the initial pair running from Adsm to the 5125
  9. Thanks yes Tweeters are the later version I think. Have attached photos Yes exakt filters are available from mail@speakerfilters.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. At the end of Dec 2020 I bought a pair of black Ninkas as our local dealer told me that drivers were no longer available as spares. See attached. I also have a pair of cherry Ninkas to which I have fitted OW1 tweeters. The fear of grandchildren pushing in the tweeters led me to install the spare blackpair with original barred tweeters which seem to be relatively kid proof. They have sat in service for two months until Mrs. Zephyr complained that she want the cherry ones back. Today I have swapped them back. So treble differences. It was immediately obvious that the OW1 has opened up the music. More expansive soundstage, much better clarity and control of note decay. Yes I acknowledge that the original specified black Ninkas don't have the upgraded bases and still have the bass speaker covers on however I was comparing the upper frequencies and this was where the enormous differences lay. So if you have Ninkas and want to upgrade them relatively cheaply I recommend the OW1.
  11. I've cured the brightness! I have had silver interconnects throughout. I have replaced the initial set from the ADSM with Linn blacks and left the rest. Instant fix but not only that (I sound like one of those TV adds - but wait there's more ), The bass is tighter / more refined punchy and the treble is clearer . I don't think it's confirmation bias, have swapped them back and forward still happens. Thank God for wet days finally got around to playing. Thanks for all your comments, I don't even need to spend money for the upgrade!
  12. Hi many thanks for all your suggestions. I'm just back from the wilderness of the Heaphy track. I have K600 cable. I use a standard power cord. I will first try just Linn blacks of which I have a surplus . I also now have two sets of Ninkas so will swap them around as well. Waiting for a wet day opportunity Just also streaming via Qobuz which has just arrived in NZ. Neil Young sounds excellent in 192Khz. Katalyst certainly responds much better to HiRes files. Brightness is fine with HiRes especially at slightly lower volumes. Report back a bit later.
  13. Nice to hear about another person extracting what they can out of the Aktive Ninkas. I am very happy with my 5125D into aktive Ninkas. Biamping the bass was better than splitting bass duities with 5125 and LK140. I remember when I had an earlier ADS into a Wakonda and aktive LK140s, the limiting factor was clearly the Wakonda. I would just play music via ADS volume control instead, then upgraded to ADSM1. Never looked back on the upgrade path! The Katalyst upgrade to the ADSM is also a game changer. I also now have possesion of another set of Ninkas which I am beginning to compare to my others with OW1 tweeters. I'll report back on another thread later on.
  14. Greetings all Last month I upgraded my Adsm to katalyst it does sound great but at higher volumes gets a bit bright/ brassy sounding. Possibly an inherent limitation of my old system I have Linn silver interconnects throughout the system. I’m wondering if anyone has experimented with changing maybe just the first set of cables inputting to the amp to tone down the brightness It’s a minor gripe as overall the change in detail and dynamics is wonderful but you know how it is with us pedantics! when I get time I’ll pop down to my long suffering local dealer who doesn’t deal in Linn and ask for a couple of different options to try Any recommendations gratefully received I’m just off on a 4 day tramp over the Heaphy track so definitely off grid for a while. I look forward to any opinions when I return. Many kiwis are enjoying buying tramping gear and exploring their own country for a change. The shops are sold out of quite a few items.
  15. Thanks all for your comments. as far as I can see the Panasonic only has a home theatre option which I presume means 5.1 and so Linn hdmi won’t play it. A waste of time and money for me I’m afraid. I see from other forums that arc hdmi connectivity / incompatible issues are rife unfortunately.
  16. Greetings all, I have just upgraded my ADSM to Katalyst and HDMI2 . Katalyst is wonderful as many here have attested. The HDMI 2 lack of connectivity has left me thinking it was a waste of money. I have purchased an expensive HDMi2 arc cable to eliminate this variable. When TV is connected it sees the arc link from Linn and then will only offer the Home theatre option . This also true in the Vierra link app If the volume level is altered on the tv, the tv displays home theatre volume up and down but no sound out of the Linn. I have disconnected the optical feed from the tv as others have reported that this can help I read that Linn will only accept two channel feed for HDMI 2 In Konfig CEC is on and the Tv clearly does see a hand shake from Linn Pana oled is a 2018 version. Anyone had a similar situation? Ideas to coax 2 channel out of TV?
  17. No Covid here either and we are due to invite Australia here and have a common bubble! Very interesting times. My katalyst system is just great. I do have a connection issue with my tv. I’ll start a new thread about this.
  18. Yes I haven’t really developed a good relationship with him (Linn Nz) yet. but then most of my stuff is not bought new so I’m not much of a customer for him he has been helpful however often I have to ask several times to get a response let’s put it this way. He succeeds in performing a service 😉
  19. Great thanks yes I heard the 530s at the dealer. In a different segment of the market to the akubariks. I’m keen to hear akubariks in analogue aktive mode I hear that the noneaxkt version is hard to come by used. I’m not convinced by exakt yet. But it’s probably me struggling to adjust to such a precise sound Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. And you are now clearly happy with them. What system did you have previously? Comparison?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Yes I have when I first got it it comes alive You have reminded me to go and persevere with that option many thanks 🙏
  22. Hell. I hadn’t thought of it like that! clearly you are enjoying your katalyst and system. 👍
  23. Yes I have played around with both the SO systems heaps and anally measured my room with laser etc shifted speakers to ideal and listened SO2 made a great difference probably partly because I could put in my irregular room dimensions but the algorithm is superior as well With my new katalyst I have just left all my setup the same apart from changing the speakers orientation to have no toe in. Katalyst then made the soundstage snap into focus. Not sure why. The SO2 settings still have the 5 degrees toe in. I must change that sometime. At present just enjoying the dynamic presentation. 192khz files are especially more dynamic! Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
