  1. Thanks Neil, it was great dealing with you too! I'm sure your wife won't notice the change in colour. It took my wife about a year to notice a change from gold to grey and by then she wasn't sure if her mind was playing tricks on her. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. I upgraded from a Groove to an EAR 88PB. The Groove is an excellent phono stage and, to be honest, any lack of bass is probably down to a mismatch between your cartridge and phono stage input impedance as I was able to get deep, solid bass with my Jan Allaerts MC1B cartridge, which plumbs greater depths than any other cartridge I've used. That said, the 88PB gives even greater depth of bass with more bass detail but a little less of the ultimate control that the Groove offered. Where the 88PB leaves the Groove behind is in dynamics and the mid range where there is so much expression, sense of space and detail and in the fine treble details. You may be able to pick up a used 88PB for £3K although they don't come on the market very often. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks wizmax, Henry sounds like just the chap. I'll check out his details. I'm sure I can pop up to Leatherhead. And hello to a fellow Hampshire Hog! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  5. My Gryphon Callisto 2100 integrated amp has been the core of my system for about 15 years and has never been in jeopardy of ejection. I 'downscaled' from a much more expensive Krell FPB300 after some years experimenting with valves. The Gryphon lacks the outright dynamic range of the Krell but replicates much of what is lovely about valve mid-range with the drive and control required to get the most from my Sonus Faber speakers. Anyway, a noticeable white noise has been building in the left channel. It's obvious from the listening position although it doesn't seem to affect the amp's overall performance. I'm guessing it's some electrolytic capacitors failing and I'd like to get the amp properly serviced by someone I can trust, so do you knowledgeable folk have any recommendations? Many thanks!
  6. rabski, my Phoenix S feeds an EAR 88PB phono amp that incorporates Tim de Paravacini's SUTs. It's a very musical combination with great flow. The only negative I have is that it lacks the sense of drama, dynamics and dynamic range of my Jan Allaerts MC1B, but at its price point it really does shine as so many other cartridges at about £2000 tend to exaggerate one feature in an attempt to sound different or exciting. The Phoenix produces a much more coherent sound that is much more enjoyable over extended listening than the brash hi-fi sounds of many of its competitors. Anyway, it looks like it's found a new home and I hope the new owner gets many hundreds of hours of pleasure from it.
  7. December bump and a special Christmas price reduction. Just £1400 for this lovely cartridge. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. For sale is my musically satisfying Transfiguration Phoenix S MC cartridge. I bought it as a stop-gap while my beloved Jan Allaerts MC1B was back with Jan for a service. That took longer than expected but the Phoenix has been used for no more than 100 hours. Since the break-in period is quoted as 30 hours, I've saved any potential acquirers the hassle of breaking the cartridge in! It comes with the original box and packaging. £1600 ono. Save yourself £500 on the new price and have a lovely cartridge that's ready to go right out of the box. Full details, reviews and specs for the cartridge are here:
