  1. Hifi Collective Ltd have a good selection at various prices, great service too. I've bought a few of the Jantzen nickel.
  2. The 10" Lii audio drivers work very well (alone) in tqwt enclosures, no issues with bass. I currently have an active two way, Fatial pro 12" in a sealed cab with a small open baffle Lii audio perched on top
  3. I'm in Chesterfield Jack.
  4. Shame you're down in Dorset or you could listen to some here. Check out Lii Audio drivers, they're popular on the Decware site, Caintuck also uses them, among others. Plenty of keen users on their facebook site. mart.

    TV cover

Hang a nice rug over it
  6. It's been modded by Audio Synthesis so you may well approve.
  7. Thanks for explaining things, if I hadn't picked up a new cd player recently I would be buying this
  8. So by adding a ssd loaded with audio, and either a phone or tablet as a controller you would be up and running ? I picked up a second hand laptop last year, loaded all my cds, installed j river, but l gave up due to the disc noise and the hassle of booting up time/windows etc. I imagine your set up does it with much efficiency
  9. Hi Oliver, it's not that it doesn't make sense, just a little complicated for the non technical among us. It's a dac, with a variable output power supply, rca and balanced ? outputs. Best used with a small hard drive (is the samsung included) ? and controlled by the volumio software (from a tablet perhaps) Thanks mart.
  10. Google translate is available, but it may not help in this case ☺
  11. Would this be the same issue as connecting one pair of speakers the wrong polarity ? Shame you're not fully digital Oliver as the EQ solution suggested would be an easy fix.
  12. Well worth paying for extended warranty, cd drives seem a bit fickle these days. Richer sounds are good for this.
  13. Cheers Spider, I'll try and make it to the next one.
  14. You wouldn't want to stray from the path of hifi sobriety, would you Ian ? ☺

The RME 2adi dac is pretty versatile. Single (L+R the same) or dual (separateL+Rsettings) 5 band parametric eq. 20 storable presets, bass treble eq, balance, loudness function etc. It does take a while to figure out the navigation, but the paper manual is useful. The mini Dsp offerings will do the eq work for you. They may, I expect have a more sophisticated eq. I imagine the final outcome could well be similar if you're patient and have good ears. But the mini Dsp will eliminate any guesswork. I don't think I'd look to owning both though. I've ownd an RME for about a year, and been very happy. I use the eq features. Running as a pre direct to a power amp I'm about-40 on the volume with current speakers. Picked up a second hand U mic last year but still haven't got round to trying it seriously. I'm still relying on my not so golden ears ! The optical out from a CCA running something like Qobuz is very good imo. really not far behind cd. I can't speak for the pre or the dac in the miniDsp, but if they're on a par with the RME, then the SHD certainly looks like great bit of kit.
  16. Looks like they're the star prize in a tombola.
  17. Mark Grant has options for his HDX1 interconnects upto 10m !! May be worth asking his opinion
  18. The rubber feet add about 15 mm to the legs. I have mine set either side of a shallow chimney, about 68 " between the closest corners. They're about 15" from the back wall, firing across the width of the room, I have even less choice of where I sit. They sound very good on the end of a lavardin is ref, they do a good job of disappearing for their size. I understand the proac have a great synergy with class a amps. The moonshine album (good album and new to me ) is very much in the mids, the proacs may well have it here, but as for sounding flat on the heco im not sure. I thought it quite a dry album, not particularly lush, she's a great voice, really close up sound, and I like those clean full textures of the guitars.
  19. Not sure if running the amp with no speakers is wise, even for a short time, unless you put a dummy load resistor on the terminals ?
  20. I think 105db speakers would be asking a lot from many amps. I've never had speakers above 94db and heard a bit of low level hum/noise here !.Tried a dc blocker, that didn't help. It's the late night, noodly music when I notice it most, oh not to get hung up on stuff. The sorbothane domes are inexpensive and can help with the mechanical side of vibrations. I don't expect el34 amps to be more prone to noise than other valve types. Maybe silent ss amps are easier to build ? What amps were popular with the klipsch systems of the past ?
  21. Hi MH, its a shame when what seems like a sure thing doesn't quite turn out so. I've a pair of these, just plonked down on the rubber feet, close to the wall also. No real issues. I can't imagine your diy feet would be so different in size to upset things. I've never heard a pair of 1sc, but may well be they do have the edge in the mids? I can't fault the heco at any frequency, they go lower than most I've had and the tweeter is well integrated. What particular music makes you realise you're missing the proac ? As for dsp. I have an rme adi dac.and I do use its eq section to good effect with one of my amps. Perhaps someone local has one you could borrow to give an idea what eq could do ?
  22. Hi Robbie Check out the "Sjostrom DCT03" It's higher capacity than the one above.
  23. Glad you're back on track Robbie. These silly mistakes are easily made, but thankfully you've found a solution
  24. I think the point is that the eminence driver is housed in a sealed part of the cabinet (from there firing into a horn) ?
