  1. I use “unglamorously economic” QED flat cable because I need 5 runs per speaker (exakt 242’s) and i’m very happy with the sound of the system. To be honest I think copper is copper and don’t believe cable sounds different, especially after reading how monster built their business ripping audiophiles off. Maybe a cable sales rep could demo a difference, but I would rather save hard earned £ and eventually spend on improving the equipment itself. I think stuff like Space O, rigid spikes and aktiv/exakt are real differences and oxygen free, blacks vs silvers are just expressions used for a “sales add on”. There’s a limit to how much expenditure a listener can stomach! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. discussion: Ok so here we are in 2020 and in self isolation. This time last year my argument is that if we commit to streaming and ditch our physical media, one day there may be situation that I can't afford to stream, what do I listen to then? Also all this investment and years listening to Spotify, Qobuz etc what happens when some months I can't afford the monthly payment? Well the day has arrived and being self employed, I'm mighty glad I ripped all my CD's. now i'm off to make a triple backup!! Maybe we should set up a little club where us audio enthusiasts can swap usb's and share our music? or is this not allowed in this day and age? (don't fancy YouTube music)
  6. Personally I’m very worried. The next months will be challenging. Don’t want to scare anyone but I’m going to have to go to the bank to hope they can defer mortgage payments before the queue starts there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I bought a pair of 242’s without audition because they had a beautiful piano white finish which matched the decor and would keep the mrs happy. I don’t compare them to anything else (I don’t go out to dealers/shows etc) and I think they sound fantastic. I’m very happy (possibly living in ignorance) with the purchase and listen to them most evenings! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Love your honesty CJ1045. God, are we audiophiles not paying enough already without having to add another piece to the “jigsaw”! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Can’t live without Qobuz. Love the editorial notes and playlists, and love the sound quality. The way I see it: in the 90’s I was paying at least £25 a month on vinyl so here I am 21st century still paying but digitally this time for the best sound on my DSM. I was quoted a few hundred for a Qnap Nas a few years back but still feel Qobuz offers more convenience than having a couple of hard drive spinning away. I do have some rare cd’s stored on my Mac but prefer to stream and stomach the cost. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. My wallet says 2xc5100 are good enough. If I heard them with akurate amps then yes I’m sure they would sound better. But for now I’ll live with this as it’s good enough for my room and as recommended by Linn customer service themselves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I had a pair of ninkas, they were activ with a Kairn and LK on treble and LK on mid bass and I was “happyish” with the sound. Previous to this set up I had 1st gen Kans which I loved, and think sound better, but had to sell because the mrs hated them. I also used to sell kabers which I also loved so I had old skool Linn sound preference. I then heard the Karin battery may leak so I sold the LK setup and bought a MDSM3 and went passive and was even more dissatisfied with the sound. I think ninkas really need to be pushed with activ to start to sound good and approach kabers level. I don’t think you will ever be satisfied with ninkas if you are used to a “better” older speaker and (I believe) the only way forward is to ditch them and go further up the chain. I think I read you had a C5100? Try and find another and use the MDSM as a pre amp and go activ and then get a pair of 2nd hand 242’s. I believe these are a steal in the 2nd hand market now because you get the 3K array on the cheap, and eventually you could get an exakt box 10 (where I am now). This would be a more positive step forward rather than fiddling with the ninkas which I don’t think you will ever be happy with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
