  1. Anyone manage to get Apple Music through their ds/dsm? Output Apple TV input hdmi? Or digital out of computer to toslink input? Would like to hear if anyone tried it yet? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I thought the info said it does. Was just about to buy the 4K Apple TV to plug into the MDSM3! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. No prob. Just a thought. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Good idea. I fancy the hub. The seller wasn’t able to split for me but we could offer him something between us? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Worst product I ever bought was (as a teenager trusting what hifi mag, at that time without auditioning) a Mission Cyrus 1 when it 1st came out. With paint peeling from the dials and a weird intermittent buzzing feedback through the also awful “what hifi Best Buy” Wharfedale 508 speakers I also bought I actually felt it was all a downgrade from my JVC 80’s boom box I sold to fund this kit! Also, just thought I would mention not knocking all Wharfedale’s, I love the original diamonds, shame I didn’t audition them at the time. I dutifully returned it all to the dealer who proclaimed I didn’t know what I was talking about, and refused a refund. So I flogged it all and managed to blag a Saturday job at a Linn/naim dealer in Windsor, and started my “flat earth journey”! After working through the usual LP12 upgrades, and decades later being lucky enough at one point to be a rep for Linn in a London dealership I was being able to borrow LK stuff. Now and many years later on DSM level I can now say my best upgrade ever is my latest purchase which is the Exaktbox 10. When it originally came out I never considered getting one because it was just too pricey, but a couple of years ago I was offered a deal I couldn’t refuse from a dealership in Dubai who was happy to ship to the UK. I honestly believe the friendly dealership was glad to get rid of it because I learned through watching a recent YouTube video of Gilad mentioning he felt the product didn’t sell as well as he hoped. But this “box of tricks” (non Katalyst as too skint now to upgrade due to lockdown) really makes the system sing. It just makes me want to play more and more music with my taste forever expanding as never before. I guess the way I know I’ve now reached to a satisfactory level is when the system just makes you “investigate” different types of music I would never listen to every listening session (also thanks to Qobuz). My 14yr old boy, who sometimes listens with me, summed it up by saying: it doesn’t matter what you play, everything just sounds so good. So now maybe I’ve reached the end of the upgrade road? Well until lockdown ends and that trip to the dealer tempts me otherwise!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Guess what: either it’s my ears or it’s “settled in”. Sounds better after re-positioning. I take it back, it’s a nice player, not perfect, but very useful whilst elbow deep in dishes! Reminds me of space op: at 1st different sound, but after a while you get used to the sound. Happier now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Merry Xmas everyone. I bought the family HomePod minis. Anyway, in the kitchen I used to have a raspberry pi with hifi berry amp (hat) with wharfedale diamonds 3rd gen. It wasn’t as good as the Linn but it was pretty good, good enough for the kitchen. Anyway the mrs hates the boxes and DIY nature of it all so upon refurbishing the kitchen it all had to go. In its place arrived apple’s newest offering HomePod mini. Anyway long story short, if you are replacing a system with HomePods, don’t! Incidentally as we also have one in the bedroom (not replacing anything) it’s ok! And Siri function perfect. Am I a hifi snob[emoji3166]? Am I being anal for sound in the kitchen whilst cooking the Sunday lunch? Does Pavarotti now match the HomePod sound with a cloth bag over his head! BTW being tongue in cheek here! any others invested in apple? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Sorry to hear this, please send my wishes to Chris and his family Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Maybe going to be controversial here: I have 242’s and love them. If you are happy with the sound of your speakers I think the £900 odd would be better off saving and spending elsewhere. Yes maybe newer stands might sound better, but guess what: there will be no end to improving/tweaking speakers. Would be interested in knowing the rest of the system, as there are more bigger improvements to be had maybe if you save your funds (exakt/aktiv/better front end etc). If anyone thinks my suggestions are expensive you can pick up 2nd hand from eBay (some dealers advertise there). Just my thoughts, please anyone who disagrees do chime in. 10. Am I late to the party just discovering "visual albums" ? I was just about to ditch Apple Music when now discovering concerts (classical) from the Apple TV playing through the DSM is so 21st century! Dont get me wrong I love the quality of Qobuz 24 bit streaming, but watching concerts like "John Williams in Vienna" (even though the quality maybe lossy), and other classical visual albums that are popping up is making Apple Music now my preferred streaming experience! Maybe I'll return to just downloading from Qobuz and commit streaming to Apple. Any thoughts on preferred streaming service fellow audiophiles?
  11. I’ve always owned Linn speakers. Loved my Kans but had to sell as I was going digital, so luckily a pair of ex display 242’s from a local dealer turned up at a great price. Yes bang per buck great value! You get the modern 3k’s on the cheap, and cheaper than any other current Linn 3k speakers which was out of my price range. On a further note, Linn amps and streamers are built so well that the 2nd hand market is ripe (if you can’t buy new). So guys, call your local dealer and ask what he’s got that he want to clear. I’m sure they would appreciate the business new or ex display! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Jon’s my local dealer, got a sweet deal on my speakers from him. He does musical events also. If you are ever near Henley on Thames (itself a lovely place to spend the day) he’s worth a visit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I use “unglamorously economic” QED flat cable because I need 5 runs per speaker (exakt 242’s) and i’m very happy with the sound of the system. To be honest I think copper is copper and don’t believe cable sounds different, especially after reading how monster built their business ripping audiophiles off. Maybe a cable sales rep could demo a difference, but I would rather save hard earned £ and eventually spend on improving the equipment itself. I think stuff like Space O, rigid spikes and aktiv/exakt are real differences and oxygen free, blacks vs silvers are just expressions used for a “sales add on”. There’s a limit to how much expenditure a listener can stomach! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Knew Brian from years ago working with Linn, really nice chap. Wish I met the girl also! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
