  1. Yes, thanks, I use those settings too : no more lights when in standby except for the discreet illuminated logo in full letters on the front. That’s suits me
  2. Made the same observation, DXD is also downsampled. Contacted Linn : they are in contact with Roon. My guess is Roon has the signature of the previous DSM. Feel sorry for your misadventure
  3. Personally I hear an audible sound degradation with Airplay, on 16/44, compared to wired or - now gone - Songcast Mac client. Don't now if it is related to NetAux Input or Airplay itself. And this degradation is more pronounced in my setup when Airplay from Apple TV vs Airplay from iPad.
  4. Seen on the blog of the Belgium dealer silences - Detailed pictures of fitting a surround module inside a kdsm/3 av link : Silences - Efficiency & Emotion: Klimax DSM Organik: Ouverture des entrailles pour installation Surround - Testing of the optical network connection, if you can read french/google translate link: Silences - Efficiency & Emotion: Port SFP Optique: Mieux que le Ethernet cuivre ? Very basically - they say much more - apologies for being an unwilling translator ! : They conclude it’s highly superior sonically compared to wired Ethernet after AB listening tests. The kdsm/3 has a 1Gb/s SFP (not 10Gb/s SFP+) which I think isn’t clearly mentioned in Linn docs. They used the recommended SFP from Linn : it’s obviously a multimode laser SFP (vcsel) because of the use of an OM4 cable. It makes sense to me, short range application, I will ask my dealer (they don’t name it and can’t find the info on Linn docs) They tried different switches, don’t reveal witch one they prefer, while saying they hear audible differences between them (they will continue to investigate SFPs and switches) I’m “all in” except for the last part because network electrical noise is completely defeated with build in Optical Ethernet (appart the noise of the SFP itself) So, trying to understand, what is left on the switch side ? clocking ? I don’t get it with clocking sensitivity here - as long as you have a correct setup - because it’s an asynchronous/buffered connection (we all experienced it : when you pull the cable it continues to play for seconds) And we all seen it, some people and manufacturers take great lengths to optimise clocking everywhere in switches, computers, network cards, etc … With a synchronous connection (spdif, synchronous mode USB, …), I can personally conceptualise it - and happily elude it with a streamer. Maybe I’m missing something here and/or it has nothing to do with clocking. I’ve been surprised more than once, if it is possible to hear it first hand, I would like to have an explanation I can understand, preferably from Linn or an other authority in that matter.
  5. I haven’t seen any configuration for display & dial, expect for proximity sensor. The Davaar 81 beta description states : “add ability to disable exaktlink leds” & “option to disable power indicator led” - I presume the latter concerns the dial. There is network activity blue lights on the back with wired Ethernet, very visible at night, I presume they will add the ability to disable them as well (or comes with exaktlink)
  6. I received my unit two weeks ago (audio version), I'm startled since every time I settle on the coach and turn the music on, it is so musical ! A few observations : - I’ve spent some time comparing wifi vs wired Ethernet (my rig is bonn N8 on stock power supply & nordost rj45 cable) : I tend to prefer it wired but and foremost it was not easy - for me - to spot the difference (I simply could just be delusional, and swapping takes time). So at least I’m now convinced the wifi connection is a high quality one (was also sceptical due to emi it must induce inside). Roon was lost with wifi, it will probably be fixed (ok with minimserver). Next step will be SFP (I haven’t settled my mind yet on what equipment to go for) - SO : I believe the benefits it provides are improved in that it doesn’t feel like if something is “left on the field” anymore (I used to play SO off with kdms/2 and forget about it because I felt it removed a bit of musicality in my room, even after “great effort” in precision laser measurements and Shorter Decay Time 100%). I still play with SO off and will give it another try when “in the mood” in a hassle free and hobbystic approach. By the way SO doesn’t seem to work on dsd. - It can play DXD ! (flac 24/352) - It seems the output transformers are on the rca (at least disconnectable only on rca). I use unbalanced with solos, but personally can’t hear an unbiased different perception between on/off after brief attempts (default is on) - As you probably noticed, the newest beta daavar adds the functionality to toggle between balance/unbalanced output, so it’s perfect for a auxiliary headphone ring; it’s so cool ! - On the wish-list or preference, I would like to have the ability to turn off the illuminated Linn logo and/or front name when the unit is on standby (haven’t seen those settings) - Last, here is an interesting scheme I found on internet and didn’t saw on Linn website
  7. It has given me a profound and lasting impression, coming from a new unit, and being already spoiled with and acclimated to a kdsm katalyst. And that new unit will go further. I’m excited.
  8. Yes, linn’s trade-in incentive greatly influences (and helps) once you’re willing to cross ; it’s a smart negotiation/proposition, I think, in that you feel like you don’t loose that much while stretching you’re legs for something better. I have no known timeframe, due to covid uncertainties, which is more than understandable. Though, I can’t wait to receive it ‘fingers crossed
  9. I’m one of those, I rarely contribute on forums, not being English doesn’t help, and of course greatly value all your insights. Called my favorite dealer right after the web conference and had the chance to have a first dedicated listening of the new klimax dsm (which is labelled kdsm/3) with very little burn in (first plugged last week). Compared to a kdsm/2 (I have a kdsm/2 with solos), both connected via wired ethernet. I placed an order after .. half a song (and a deal for my kdsm/2) : The difference is not subtle to my ears, much much more musical and .. organic ; it’s fluid in comparison with katalyst and the emotions are conveyed with another order of magnitude - again to my ears ; it’s awesome For digital sources, I started my journey years ago with Majik then Akurate, kds/kk, kdsm/1, kdsm/2 : it’s the biggest improvement I’ve heard between two “range” of DS ; it’s something else than klimax and I enjoy being able to further improve my system with a new Linn product. I think that the look is as classy as the actual design in real (even though I won’t really use the dial either) I’m looking forward : to experiment the optical ethernet and wifi connections, I have high hopes that one or the other achieves to stop bothering about optimising the « computer rig » - or simplify it with just an optimised(?) optical switch and a standard computer to listen to music with it What I’m mostly wondering so far : Seems like the remote control is left untouched (would love a minimalist metal remote) Is the dvc further improved ? Is it possible to easily turn off one of the analogue output to switch to an headphone amp at night ? (since they are now independent) Does space optimisation benefit from the new architecture ? Is there a sound difference between AV and Audio version ? - it was an AV version on loan but then I opted for the audio one because it must exists for a reason(?)
