  1. Thank you for the excellect review @sunbeamgls! It's great that you put so much effort into setting up the two test scenarios, incl. figuring out how to "misuse" the Exakt Boxes as passive DACs. Sorry but I have to ask you the sam(ish) question as @Paulssurround: Which system setup did you prefer overall, the Exakt Katalyst active setup with NGKDSM acting as system hub, or the passive setup with NGKDSM using the Organik DACs? It may be that you stated that in the final paragraph of the review ("...a huge uplift from Akurate level Katalyst..."), but it could also refer only to the direct comparison of the different sources that you made. It's not easy to get my head around all this... Sorry if I am splitting hairs here, but I'm really interested. Again, I find it fascinating that the upgraded System Hub makes such a difference, which has now been reported coherently several times.
  2. Thanks again for another great review Paul! Sorry but I have to ask. Which did you prefer, your friend's system with the NGKDSM or your Katalyst Akubariks with the thing acting as NGKSH? I know it's apples and oranges but still...
  3. Thank you for the excellent review Paul. It's still baffling me that this all comes from the new hub alone. What shall happen when the Akubariks get the "real" update...
  4. Yes that was a great evening. My favorite part was when you had figured out the optimal configuration, you played Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed, cranked the system up to 70+ and told the "doop doop girls" to leave the speakers and join you. Brilliant. I have never put the system to more than 60... and we did that late in the evening. The neighbors never complained so they must have liked it too. BTW, I recently dumped the power line ethernet and connected the ASH directly to the router. So much better. Good luck with your home renovations and the KDSM at home! :-) Looking forward to the reports...
  5. It seems you are right on that one. I thought I just as well might ask the Linn helpline. Here is the email dialogue, minus the polite bits: Q: "will there be the possibility to upgrade the current version of the Klimax Exakt DSM aka Klimax System Hub to the new Klimax System Hub (Organik), i.e. a new circuit board for new Organik in the old Klimax Housing?" A: "The Klimax System Hub does not have a DAC within and as such there would not be an option to offer an Organik DAC fitted into a Klimax System Hub version. We plan to offer at some point in the next couple of years a retrofittable Organik to the previous generation of Klimax DS and Klimax DSM, as these models do already incorporate a DAC." Q: "From what I understand there is more to the new streamers than the new Organik DAC, e.g. new ADC and new precise clock which also add to the performance of the System Hub. This means that these will not be retrofitted into existing Klimax cases, right?" A: "The engineer advises that at the moment, there are no plans to offer such a retrofittable upgrade option to the original Klimax DSM System Hub, however, he has noted your request." Quite a detailed answer, much appreciated. So, no plans regarding upgrading the KSH, but not completely ruled out for the future. I can understand that they want to see how well the new Organik stuff does on the market, which seems luckily very positive, and with the Covid and Brexit pandemics still on their plate, this will not have the highest priority. Maybe we are lucky and in some point in the future they incorporate this. It would make sense that they try to include clock and ADS updates in KDS(M) streamers as well, and an update for the KSH would be a side product. On the other hand, they probably do not want the updated streamers to perform too close to the new ones, given the price difference...
  6. There is a hint in the comment section of the youtube recording of the launch event.
  7. Yes, that's me. It was a pleasure meeting you, great that you could make it possible. I wish you a lot of fun playing around with the NGKDSM and good luck with the bathroom renovations. Remember to use it a last time before they start, and hope they finish quickly...
  8. Yes, we have the same system indeed. Congrats on your great system BTW! I am still hoping that Organik trickles down into the Akubariks within 12-18 months, but that may very well be wishful thinking. It sort of helps that the NGKSH is out of reach for me so I just have to wait... For the time being, I am looking forward to the reports of Paul and others.
  9. Thank you for opening this interesting thread, focussing on the role of the NGKSH. I repeat here my observations from a listening session three weeks ago at my dealer from another thread, and add a few thoughts about the KSH. "After a very enthusiastic report of my dealer about the NG Klimax System Hub, I visited him yesterday [April 13th] for a listening session of Klimax 350 (Katalyst) with the new Hub. It was really an amazing system, sounded very good, we had a lot of fun listening to all kinds of music streamed from Tidal. Lots of detail of CD quality recordings I did not notice before, but still all the fun there. We did not bother to connect the "old" Klimax System Hub for comparison, so I cannot 100% be sure it would not be the same level of performance, but from what I remember the new hub was clearly better. I can only imagine what the Organik update to the 350s will bring. What also struck me is when we changed to the LP12 (Klimax spec incl. Urika II), it was an even better experience. By the way, the first vinyl he spun was a late 70s record during oil crisis, it was really "wobbly"... but much better than all the streams we had heard. So I am anxious to see if Organik will erase that difference... with Katalyst, it is cleary there (and not small)." So the improvement (from memory, no A/B comparison) was there from the new KSH alone, which did surprise me. But I am not really in the market for the KSH. As I own Katalysed Akubariks, I mentally marked the Organik upgrade for the Akubariks as necessary though. But now I wonder how big the contribution of the NGKSH really is, also with Organik. E.g., the comparison with "Organik'ed" 350s with old KSH and NGKSH would really interest me. Maybe there is quite a lot of contribution of the new precise clocking in the NGKSH, which already "unleashes" the Katalyst 350s that I heard, and maybe it is just as important with the Organik 350. Initially I thought (and I still do) that the Organik version of Exakt speakers (350s/Akubariks/...) will be the main upgrade, and the NGKSH does not really play a role. But maybe... going "only" Organik in the speakers w/o the KSH is sort of a "side-step"... who knows. Just a thought... and maybe Paul and/or others getting the chance to audition the Organik 350s can try it with both "old" KSH and NGKSH, and try to make out the difference between the two Hubs. That would be great... Looking forward to reports from the Organik 350's!

To the OP, if the dealer offers you a try-out at home experience, no strings attached, and obviously you like the design and minimalism of the setup, plus SO will be helpful in your listening room, go for the NG Klimax system incl. Organik 350s. I cannot comment on a comparison with other high-end streamers as I haven't heard them. In another thread, you contemplate what LP12 to buy. Given the kind of outlay for the above system which you question if it is not a foul compromise, I think you should just go for the Klimax LP12. At a comparedly "small" outlay you get one of the best turntables without compromises.
