  1. Have you invested any time and energy in isolating your CD player from the surface upon which it sits...? I know it might sound like I'm suggesting "voodoo" - But I placed some sorbothane 'blobs' underneath my CD Player (Following the strong recommendation from a fellow audio freak) and I couldn't believe the difference it made. Literally cost a few pounds.
  2. Shame there weren't more female responders. Makes me feel rather like a 'mad-bloke-tinkering-in-his-shed" kinda vibe. Ho-hum
  3. Ah, no... that's where you're wrong. You've gotten richer
  4. In that case I'll happily complete the form
  5. NIce idea Richard: May I ask: what do you intend to do with the data collected...? SP
  6. Good to hear a fellow-satisfied human - just rolling with the punches and letting it flow. I'm feeling the same vibe; but helped by the fact that my amplifier has JUST been fixed by a friend who is a genius electrical engineer. Nice: after no music for 3 months!
  7. Apologies To anybody who might have sent interest in this record...I had one person who seemed interested then change their mind, so, Yes it is still for sale...
  8. Hiya, I sympathise with your predicament as I have had very similar story with my Berning ZH-270s. I managed to drop Some record cleaning fluid onto the circuit (when the amp was on! yikes). But luckily I seem to have got away with it - and it works still fine with that issue. However I was noticing that the capacitors were going. I had them changed by a local friend Here in Totnes, Who is electrical engineer. He changed all other capacitors in one of the units. If you want his name send me a PM and I will give it to you. Let me know how you get on with your repairs. These really are very special amplifiers - and if you have the right valves inside them - and your driving them the right speakers -they are very difficult indeed to find a better substitute. SP
  9. I had a similar problem with my Berning ZH-270. I changed the ON/OFF switch which solved the problem. It had become 'furry' over the years.... worth a try
  10. A spliff. Late at night, with good friends – and a copy of Dark Side of the Moon on vinyl...
  11. I'm using a Puresound L10 with great results (into monoblock ZH270s) Obviously the Pre-One would be better, but as you said, budget is restrictive.
  12. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood 180g 45RPM 2LP Box Set. Mastered from the Original Master Tapes with Mobile Fidelity's One-Step Process: The Ultimate Version of Stevie Ray Vaughan's 1983 Debut Deluxe Audiophile Pressing Strictly Limited to 7,000 Numbered Copies (Limit Two Per Customer) I’ve opened this and listened to it ONCE. Completely Pristine. As NEW. Played carefully on Roksan TMS2 with immaculate DRT XV1s cartridge. Sound quality is astounding. But the music is just too heavy blues for me. A shame. It was very expensive. Looking for £115 delivered. It’ll come in a special LP protective case. Or, I can meet anywhere in near the Exeter/ Totnes area. Or central London 6th/7th/8th February ….?
  13. hahaha, I must obviously be a bit of a "lady-man" reading this, because I switch off straight away whenever I have to perform repetitive analysis tasks. Or maybe I'm simply childish? Fiunny thread. Loving it!
  14. What a refreshingly honest and interesting post! Congratulations. I read this one from beginning to end – unlike many of the others! OCD, as you generously call it. Or basic boring ‘nerdiness”. it’s all rather tiresome. A shame I do not live in the north-west because I feel rather confident that I would enjoy having a bake off at your house. SP
  15. congratulations on what seems like a fantasy dream "am I dreaming?" moment... My first proper TT - an still have it here.
  16. Hmmm, I'll have to do some research about Steichen then... Thanks for the tip
  17. Can you manage to make a stop on Dartmoor on your way down, or when you travel across from Dorset to north Cornwall?
  18. Enjoying Hector's list, a couple there that I'm unfamiliar with. But I'd certainly add these names: (interesting that many seminal names are often from the US) Sebastião Salgado Ansel Adams Irving Penn Alfred Stieglitz Yousuf Karsh Nick Knight John Heartfield Arnold Newman
  19. Thanks Rabski, Hmmmm, sounds like quite a lot of extra tinkering is involved. Considering that most times when I start tinkering with stuff, I usually end up breaking something, or simply making it worse. It might be wise for me to stick with my phone stage... Is the idea that you use a SUT - INSTEAD OF - a phone stage? or in conjunction...?
  20. After seeing rabski's comment on the recent thread "Cart options to consider when in Japan". Rather than hijacking that thread. It's better to start a new one I thought. It has prompted me to consider the fact I might have been going wrong all this time in not using a SUT myself? I thought a high-quality Phono Amplifier like I use (Ensemble Dirondo) was enough? yes/no...?
