  1. What bugs me is that the ‘reviews’ are so arse licking…
  2. Try cork coasters too. These won’t break the bank. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plain-Round-Real-Cork-Coasters/dp/B093Y968MB/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1405LW5BZHNU8&dchild=1&keywords=cork+coasters+round&qid=1631800220&sr=8-5
  3. It’s simple really. If you don’t hear an improvement don’t buy it
  4. I guess the Darkz isolators would make the RA gear seem an absolute bargain.
  5. Nah. 100% wool + I used to have the block even further off the carpet with the Musicworks acrylic stand.
  6. So I tried the Russ Andrews Torlyte block under the mains block using the supplied spikes, with Acoustic Solid feet between the two blocks. (Does that make sense?) .Like many folk on here I’m not a RA fan but unfortunately it works if you fancy an increase in prat. It shouldn’t make any difference I know but it does and sounds better than my Musicworks acrylic stands which improved having the mains block on the carpet - muddy and loss of detail + dynamics. I reckon the improvement as similar to isolating the equipment on your rack. Crazy maybe but if you’ve a mains block sat on carpet - move it. IMHO of course but if I’d paid more attention to this way back I might have saved some dosh on fancy cables - maybe. 7. Now come on - I’ve only been at it for about 50 years
  8. Ahh, perhaps I might like the sound even more on a different platform or whatever. Onwards and upwards!
  9. I’ve spent some time and a few Bob fiddling about with mains cables despite rumours that they make no difference. Having got things sorted to the sounds I like I was happy. Then I wasn’t. My mains block - a 6 way Musicworks job - has been sat on a small acrylic Musicworks equipment stand for years. I thought I’d give the acrylic a clean for the first time ever so rested the block on the carpet. I listened to my Stax setup with the block on the floor but it didn’t sound right. Bass was muddy, hf were rolled off. So I tried the 2 channel setup with much the same result. Things had changed. I had some spare “something solid” feet - a mixture of balsa wood and carbon fibre - so popped them under the block instead. Things livened up a bit but still not what I was used to. I therefore must conclude that what you rest your mains block on can influence the sound by a noticeable degree. This is a bummer and will require further investigation as I think some improvements can be made here, over and above what the original support offers. Now some of you might consider such observations to be contentious but that’s ok. I never said I was sane anyway. Maybe I’ll try a Russ Andrews Torylite platform despite not being one of his biggest fans….
  10. I reckon shadders is just serge in disguise. Where’d he go anyway?
  11. Argue away folks. I’ve been arsing around with mains cables for a month now and they can make a significant difference on some equipment. Not inexpensive gear either. The darTZeel power amp responds better to some cables than others. Jez would probably argue that it must have a crap power supply so good luck with that. Differences may be the cable, the connectors or whatever. Don’t care but the journey is fun, maybe better than the destination….
  12. Happy enough with my ARC CD9 but if I had the choice now I’d have the Aqua Formulae x hd https://www.aquahifi.com/file/reviews/Formula_xHD_Rev2_HFN_2020.pdf with their own transport https://www.aquahifi.com/la_divacd.html
  13. I auditioned the Dave - didn’t like the sound much but certainly wouldn’t poop on others pleasure. Wasn’t too keen on the Benchmark either after a month having bought one. Chose a La Scala in the end based on the listening experience. Don’t give a fig about how it measures. Reminds me of the 70’s when folk were chasing the lowest measured distortion figures when choosing an amp despite them sounding all detail and no emotion. I’m sure the Formula xHD will be fantastic. Would be for me if I had the Wonga. I believe it’s being reviewed in next months hifi+ if that’s relevant. Sorry - it’s the La Scala being reviewed.
  14. I was thinking of my ARC Ref 5 pre complete with many unused inputs, both balanced and single ended + the various circuit boards within which I believe now retails around 15k or more where there must be economies of scale given the volume of gear they produce. Then I was looking at the SW1X site. https://sw1xad.co.uk/product/sw1x-pre-iv-dht-line-pre-amplifier/ where the pre sells for only a little less. Here the amp is made to order with loads of options by one or two guys I presume. But which would offer better value I wonder?
  15. Tracked 24/48 hrs is only available online I discovered when trying to use said service at the post office. So for 72p I have stuff collected now which so far has worked ok.
  16. Not best pleased to read that ARC have discontinued their CD players, especially as I have a CD9. Hope they kept spares back should the transport give problems but given its a Philips pro - hopefully not. Their gear is getting too expensive these days and I reckon you can get the same quality sound for less. Probably a lot less.
  17. I’m using the Aries G1 into a L Scala dac with great results and I presume the G2 is even better. But the biggest improvement came with using a Shunyata Delta power cord. Go figure….
  18. I’ve been using Transparent Musicwave + for the best part of the last 15 years and only unplugged it once. Wonder if things have improved? But what to try - that is the question…..
  19. Got one myself. Top quality product
  20. I wouldn’t have bothered. This thread has become a scratching post for cats.
  21. So if you really really really wanna know how I feel about these cables (which I’ve tried) you’ll have to pm me. That’ll cut through the crap
  22. Bloody cheek! My posts have been about Puritan, the whole Puritan and nothing but the Puritan. I think….
  23. I do believe that 50 pages are within sight. Is this a record for a mains cable discussion, I mean argument?
  24. Given that the thread on ‘quiescent couplers’ is locked I doubt if much will be stirred there. Probably just as well….. Meanwhile the Puritan Ultimate is going great guns with an SR fuse installed!
  25. Oh ffs give it a rest.
