  1. No - remove the previous installation of LMS before re-installing. I guess that your OS is a version of Linux, I'm using Ubuntu, the command is "sudo apt-get remove --purge logitechmediaserver" (or squeezeboxserver if you're using earlier ver). I'm using logitechmediaserver 7.7.1 which is the latest stable version. Be aware that purging may lose your playlists and favourites so back up files as recommended. More info here
  2. I experienced the same problem going from 7.6 to 7.7, I purged the existing LMS (SBS) and re-installed, which worked for me. Good luck R
