  1. I had a similar thought but now some of the TV apps perform better than my AppleTV so decoding would be more useful as they don’t do it for themselves. That’s especially true for Now with Boost which always wins the “app designed by fuvkwits award”. On a separate point I find it bizarre that the new DSM family include models described as AV but with no surround board unless you pay extra - bloody bonkers.
  2. Certainly contains some unsophisticated comedy (sorry Barry & Marty) Anyway the benchmark must be Max & Ray in the go on shows. I’d argue they have dated a lot less.
  3. My old mini started having issues with one HDD. I see your music is on an external drive but perhaps running Disc Utility on the system disc and then some disc repair options might reveal/improve things. Lots of people out there who’d pay for the corpse whatever happens.
  4. I haven’t seen any reference to Linn providing an HDMI 2.1. board or an Atmos capable surround board. This year’s TVs/app versions use both, so any AV version of the hub or full fat DSM will require both before I jump. Otherwise I’d wait for the speaker upgrade to be ready then demo the lot and see how the whole package come together.
  5. Provided it’s a certified ultra high speed cable. I replaced my old non-certified one recently as the TV and KDSM were struggling to remain stable. Worked a treat.
  6. How do you access the Mac desktop? Mine is plugged into the telly via HDMI but sometimes the two stop talking to each other so I have to reboot to see the desktop. The mac is set to not go to sleep. I’m wondering if a MacBook would be better.
  7. I have a mini plugged into HDMI3 on a KDSM/2. It runs Kazoo server and Big Sur. If I let it sleep or lock then it refuses to wake up from the wireless trackpad or keyboard. It is still running though so Kazoo works fine on the iPad. The DSM & mini are plugged into the same time capsule. To state the obvious - the above uses Ethernet from the mini to the DSM to stream my rips so the mini’s HDMI output is only used for surround rips such as BD or DVD-A. The latter sometimes requires some dicking about with the MIDI settings to match the source file.
  8. Run an HDMI cable between the ARC out enabled HDMI port on the TV (probably labelled or in the manual) and the HDMI out on the ADSM. To listen chose HDMI ARC As the source No sound - check the TV menu for an option to change the sound format on the ARC output.
  9. I demoed AkB vs AkD. I bought both. The AkBs are on the front. No way the AkDs can compete, which is why they are rears. Full Kat Exakt so latest spec all round. Now if Linn would produce a centre.....
  10. How would you know if part of an exakt speaker, such as an Akubarik, had failed? In theory it would sound odd but I wondered if there was any on-board diagnostics that you could use? It’s more likely to be a power supply or amp which may not be immediately obvious or point to what exactly (sic) has failed.
