  1. Ah dang it—the Google page result said this was from April 2020!
  2. You don’t by any chance happen to still have the CP-800 for sale do you?
  3. Thank you, yes, I’ve seen a couple of US ones. Just trying to find out from Classé if they’re automatically switchable and also what kind of import duty I’d have to pay as well.
  4. The first of what I expect will be many bumps!
  5. Hi all, I’m looking for a Classé CP-800 preamp. If you have one you’d like to sell, please let me know! Thanks, Andrew
  6. Thanks everyone for your input, trialling the current amp first it is!
  7. Ok, thank you. Is it as straightforward, then, as saying that my current amp can comfortably drive my current bookshelf speakers (rated 89db) to a volume I’m happy with, so it should be able to drive the 803d3 floorstanders (rated 90db) comfortably as well, given its stability at lower impedances? Or is there something else I’m not factoring in here?
  8. Thank you all for your advice. So it’s the dynamic peaks I need to be aware of, the headroom so to speak. In my room my current setup has never been past 70% volume—I don’t know if I can reverse engineer that to see what I’ve got to spare!
  9. Thank you—do you know at all why people insist on these speakers requiring a lot of power? I see people commenting on how you need 300w as a minimum with 600w preferable which, unless they live in a stadium, seems like overkill to me
  10. Thank you, that’s good to know. It makes sense given the numbers that an amp with solid performance in the lower impedances should drive them fine, so it confuses me that so many say that they need so much power to drive them. The only thing I can think of was that they were in a big room far away from the speakers. There’s a lot of talk about ‘grip’ and ‘control’ around higher power amps—but never with any information to back it up. Either the amp clips or it doesn’t, right?
  11. Thank you everyone for your input, much appreciated. It sounds like the consensus is that I should try them with my current amp first.
  12. This touches on something I don’t fully understand—the CAP-2100 was tested by a hi-fi magazine when new and found to double down to 1ohm (in fact, if I recall correctly, the amp was actually measured at 150w at 8ohms), which should mean that it would comfortably drive the 803d3s, however I’ve seen lots of talk about how you need big power for these speakers because of the low impedances, but i dont fully understand why. Like you say, my integrated should do just fine!
