  1. By Jove you're right... I must admit I've always assumed that the bitrate of DAB broadcasts would limit sound quality vs say CD so have never thought of using an external DAC on DAB. T'will be interesting to hear your thoughts. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. T32 by any chance? Loving mine... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Is that the same as being right? Bl00dy hell, a lifetime first, and I'm only 57! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. This is complete madness. Thank you! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Indeed. It's just a pity that if I unsubscribe from a car purchase conversation I might miss out on developments in the Measurements/Listening conversation it started out as. That reminds me. Did I ever tell you about my dog? We thought long and hard about names when we first got him and eventually settled on Tweeter... but his mates used to take the mickey mercilessly so we changed his name to Woofer. It took him a few weeks to get used to the new name but crossovers have always been challenging. Boom boom! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Is it just me or have we gone slightly off-topic? I feel only the most tenuous of links, and that is about whether Serge is being consistently analytical across all his significant decisions. I may unsubscribe. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. Thanks for the nudge, I just did. Most of it went over my head but it was thought-provoking at times too. The video included some inky blacks, which I thought was clever. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Metaphors are like windmills, I find. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Ditto, did the marathon whole Ring in a week thing at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall last year. Hardly an opera nut but it was a tremendous experience. Great to see so many familiar faces (and hear familiar voices) when I caught some of the first performance on BBC. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thanks Peter, if it ain't broke and all that... see you in 4 1/2 weeks! Nigel Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Thanks Peter, if it ain't broke and all that... see you in 4 1/2 weeks! Nigel Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. And how does that compare? Not looks-wise obviously... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Oui, exactement ça. That's the trouble with the French, they have no word for vehement. Actually, they have a very similar word except with silly lines over the "e"s; I think that's just their pretentious way of covering up the fact they've been nicking our words for centuries. Brexit will solve this, they will have to pay license fees. Let's see what that does to their outrageous use of le weekend rather than fin de semaine. Bâtards. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I think you'll find the French is bolleaux. Mind you, my French is pretty basic so I could be talking gattox.
  14. I'm sure that semi-colon should be a colon. I have an article on colonic irrigation somewhere; can't find it since I had a clearout. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. 12?! Wow, that's ear-bleeding stuff. See you in Scalford! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. In past years I have pitched up with my PayPal receipt as evidence of purchase. This year I have bought an SWP ticket for myself and three tickets for normal humans as I'm bringing three Wam virgins with me. Apparently the mere mortal tickets will be delivered by Royal Mail - will the SWP ticket also be? Will they arrive together? And when? I want to know if/when to start panicking and chasing... Thanks, Nigel PS. Got myself a nice TheFlash T-shirt off fleabay for ease of identification and abuse. [emoji41] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. Not sure I'll be there early enough to help carry the kit in as I'm bringing three Wam "virgins" for 10:00 arrival... but I should be able to cover for an hour for you. As long as you have an amplifier which goes as high as 11. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Sorry for being thick but I'm really not sure what you're saying here. You "lived with" your Arcam Delta 290 and matching P driving your (passive, I presume) Tannoy Gold speakers for 11 years but were unhappy with the sound? You then changed something in the speakers and the sound improved hugely? That I get. Though it probably says more about the speakers than the amp(s)... But then you appear to be comparing the sound of a speaker with the sound of an amplifier; that I don't get! Could you clarify what was in the original system 1, including source (why not) and then what was in the much more impressive system 2 eleven years later? Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Love it. Sounds like your Chromecast Audio-BubbleUpNp-Android does what my Squeezebox Duet-iPeng-iPad does. When my Duet gives up the ghost I will give the Chromecast a pop. Thanks for the info. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. I don't have the skills or inclination to grow my own PSU. Maybe when I retire I will do so and sell them for £250 a pop! So the decision is between buying one at that price (ish) or sticking with the stock switched supply. I chose the former. If you or anyone else has the skills and patience to grow their own then I applaud you, seriously. But £0 for stock switched vs £280 for linear was not something I had to think too long and hard about. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. Ditto, I still listen more to CD than to vinyl than to streamed. I tried to go all modern and the PSU was part of that but I'm obviously an old codger. On phone or other source, biggest difference by far is of course the quality of the source material so as a minimum FLAC or ALAC for CD quality. Enjoy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  22. I'm pleased to confirm that the standard switched power supply does work fine. I just found I was not getting as engaging a listen as when listening to the original CD so the SBD (Duet not Touch, not sure if that makes any difference) became a sort of backup source. With the linear PSU I listened more comfortably and enjoyably for longer. This could be wishful thinking. And finally... from the brief exchange of correspondence, it appears there are folk who may believe there is no difference between a Duet and a Touch, between a linear and a switched PSU, and in Serge's case between one DAC and another. These are all valid points of view with which I would respectfully disagree. Bugger, forgot to mention mains cables. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23. I would counsel against saying that £280 is a stupid amount to spend on anything IF it makes a difference to the sound which in the ear of the beholder is worth £280. To me it did and it was. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  24. Strong shout-out for Sean at Custom HiFi Cables and his DC2 http://www.custom-hifi-cables.co.uk/home/power-supplies/-dc2-dc-power-supply. Made a clearly audible and positive difference to me. £280. I'm sure other linear PSU's are in the same league but I'm delighted to recommend Sean. Definitely ditch the stock switched supply.
