  1. Today I found out my friend from the 1970,s Paul as I knew him died, Paul and I first met when he wanted his own amplifiers, we called them ProAc Magnum and these were the foundations of the world class Magnum product designed by me in the early days. He introduced me to what would be my Inca Tech distributor in Italy Giuseppe and to John Michael of the beautiful turntable fame, both the dear friends have know gone. I will miss seeing Pauls welcoming face at show and he will be missed by thousands. R.I.P. my dear friend and mentor I will miss seeing and chatting with you.
  2. I only bought these a month or so ago, they are just a bit too big for my room so downsizing to some D20R. I'm sure you will be aware how beautiful these speakers sound, with deep yet controlled and articulate bass, transparent mids and sparkling highs, all sounding relaxing to listen to. I had some Spendore D7.2s before these, and although crystal clear, they did make listening for more that 45min tiring on my ears. I can happily sit for hours listening to these Proacs! Cherry finish in near perfect condition with only slight fading behind the grill. All original packaging and floor spikes. I will consider taking a newish pair of D20R is part exchange (Rosewood, Ebony or Walnut). Collection from York or Selby or can ship. I'd also be happy to travel upto 50 miles from Selby to meet a buyer. Now asking £2800...(was £3000)
  3. I bought these lovely speakers from a fellow Whammer a few months ago, and I intend to upgrade to some D30RS'. Perfect working order, few marks cosmetically as show in the pictures and the foam around the tweeter is worn. NO boxes, but I'll drive up to 50 miles of YO8 8AG to help with collection. £725 ONO Richard P.S. sorry the picture isn't very good, I had to drop it to get it under 2MB! I have lots of other pictures for interested parties
  4. I'm selling these as I've bought myself a pair of Celef LS8's (again). I have the original boxes and foam inserts. No sun fade, always used with grilles off. The finish is exquisite, with perfectly mirrored veneers in a rich burr yew finish. Looking for the £600 from established wammers, now on eBay at £725 or offers. Check out reviews, check out eBay prices, check out the finish on this pair, and grab a sonic and aesthetic bargain. No offers thanks. These are in Kendal and will only be collectable from 2nd December (post-lockdown) either there or near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire - but don't wait until then to snap them up! In December, and by arranngement, I should be able to deliver in the patch of England between Kendal and Melton, taking in Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke, Leeds, Bradford, York, Sheffield, Nottingham... PM me.
  5. I’m currently streaming Qobuz through a Bluesound Node 2i, Khadas Tone Board, Sonneteer Alabaster into my Proac Tablette 10s. The sound is insightful and has plenty of energy, detail and presence. However, sometimes it can seem a little hard edged and strident. I am starting to look into valve amps, ideally for under £1000 (new or used). Would a valve amp get me a sweeter, richer sound or would I be better sticking with the Sonneteer and changing the speakers? As an aside have already tried some used P3ESRs I place of the Proacs and found the sound dull and lacking interest.
  6. Looking for amplification advice for my newly acquired Proac D38 floorstanders. Current class A hybrid amp bought for Quad 63’s is really amazing all round in that combo but despite the superb bass control the hybrid brings to the Proac it is ever so slightly zingy/bright top end. I am now leaning toward tubes to bring a wee bit more warmth to the tweeter. Happy to biamp to avoid losing all important grip on the bass so hopefully that can open up options on low power tubes, even SET. The other option could be an all tube preamp and keep the hybrid in place driving both woofers and tweeters. The Proacs (surprisingly) are fairly sensitive at 91db and an easy load. Any thoughts or advice? cheers
  7. Don’t suppose any forum members are thinking of parting with their ProAc 148’s? Mahogany or cherry or preferred but all finishes considered, given there aren’t likely to be many coming up! Thanks.
  8. ProAc D18 Maple Floorstanding Speakers - £1100 ONO I'm retiring and going travelling so it's time to sell the "stack" This ad is for the ProAc D18 maple speakers that you probably don't need an introduction to as they were WhatHiFi Speakers of the Year for £1500+ in 2011 when I bought them. I loved them then and I love them now for their sweet crystal-clear sound. They are in excellent condition with only the tiniest micro-scratches that you would expect from a pair of speakers that have been looked after and not moved since the day they arrived. The only issue is a slight colour difference with the one that was closer to the window being a smidge lighter. They will be packed safely back into their original boxes - collection only please from near Banbury

  12. I have recently inherited some Proac Response SC1 speakers. I also inherited a Michell pre amp and power amp (all quite old now) but find the sound far too bright for my tastes. I am currently pairing the speakers with a NAD CD and amp which sounds fine but... I am wanting to buy a new CD player and Amp that will do the speakers justice. I have read a lot about the pairing of Sugden and Proac and wonder if the A21 Signature CD and Amp would be a good match or if I would notice the difference between these and the Sudgen Fusion 21 CD and A21SE Amp. Reading reviews I was also thinking about the Roksan Caspian M2 amp and CD player. Many reviews seem to suggest these are good and sound smooth. I know people will say go and audition and always have in the past (or tried equipment at home) - I now live in France and every dealer I phone within a few hours drive does not have the equipment I want to listen to. I am thinking of ordering on the internet with a view to returning if I don't like it (as you are able to do), but I want to make an informed decision so I don't have to return too much. We mainly listen to classical music (a wide range from small scale to large forces) - in the past I have returned amps and CDs that sound too clinical and harsh (they have almost attacked you when listening) and therefore assume we like a smoother sound, but we do want detail. I loved my Arcam CD with Marantz K1 Signature Amp and Proac Tablets but want something better than this now. Any views would be welcomed.
