  1. https://community.roonlabs.com/t/uncertified-roon-ready-devices-announcement/120298 Just to confirm, that this change WILL NOT AFFECT Linn DS’s. They will work completely as normal after 21 September. There was some confusion over at the Roon Community forum regarding Linn, but it’s been clarified now. Linn WILL work https://roonlabs.com/r/fsumbvGpoUCMnMMa846tCA
  2. I do not wish this to be a complete kicking of a company but I have to say that I really do not understand why anyone would want to use this company for its Service and buy its new standalone servers. Looking at them they do not appear to be anything that special but the cheapest hardware option is around £1500 . Then once having paid what I view as a huge price for a fairly simple server (they are based on Intel or Apple chipsets and then just shorn of features to make them dedicated as servers) you then expected to pay the company a yearly fee of around $100 to use the software or pay out $500 to get the service for life . Now I may have got this wrong but this is just a Media Server with add on's that look good and give you extra information about artists and the like. I have little doubt that it may well be something that others enjoy and are willing to pay for . However I would have thought if you are selling the customer an expensive piece of hardware that can only run using your software then at the least for those owners you would bundle in a lifetime membership . Now Keith at Purite is checking this so I may be wrong and they will offer a deal but for the life of me I can not see why anyone buy such limiting hardware and then shell out just so it works.
  3. Hi I'm looking for a mini windows server which is quiet and can run both roon core and hqplayer upsampling to dsd512 Budget is flexible up to £1300
  4. I purchased a lifetime membership to Roon this time last year and have since made it my main method of listening. My vinyl has been very sadly neglected! I listen in a box bedroom so size reduction has always been a focus. So when I hooked an Atom powered NUC board to my AudioByte Hydra Z I got what I considered to be the best listening experience overall. But this was 2 or 3 boxes where 1 or 2 could do. AudioByte use off the shelf enclosures with custom front and rear panels for their products. These can be had from Modushop, an Italian vendor of DIY and pro enclosures. Initially I wanted a matching box but during a recent night shift where I had little to do but make test telephone calls every two hours or so I brain stormed this little scheme. My Hydra Z is USB in and SPDIF or i2S over HDMI out. It cleans up and isolates USB before processing to something virtually all DACs can work with. My NUC will be of course Ethernet in and USB out, as are most SBC's like the Raspberry Pi's, Sparky's, Odroid's etc. But there is a specific reason I went NUC. It has none of the compromises of the smaller SBC's. Memory, storage, wireless capabilities are all user configurable by adding the appropriate components. So I want to end up with Ethernet in, i2S over HDMI out and visible to my streaming source. It is also designed well enough that it has no shared resources so USB3 is just that, Gigabit ethernet also. There should be no performance bottlenecks. So, what have I done so far? Watch this space!
  5. Innuos Zen and Innuos Zenith are now Roon Ready - all new purchases come with two months free Roon membership! 6. After its most recent update, Roon seems to have come of age. It now includes options to upsampling to DSD which seems to work well for the bitstream DAC's out there. It allows adjustment for speaker delay to go with its new surround capability and now includes the ability to take the readings from REW for room correction. Those that have the ability to compare still reckon the specialist software like Audirvana and HQPlayer may have an edge in SQ terms but it is closer now. Much closer. One thing that is now apparent is that the power the Room team said you needed, a minimum i3, is more relevant for day to day use. However I am pretty sure Celeron based systems with modest local libraries should still be able to use upsampling to higher PCM rates and use the room correction without too much trouble. That said, my i5 NUC runs 25-30% CPU upsampling to DSD 128, the upper limits of what my Black Dragon DAC presently accepts. On the road map for further 1.3 builds is software decoding of MQA and ROCK which is their lightweight dedicated Roon operating system, Roon Optimised Core Kit both of which I am looking forward to.
