Hello, I have a LP12/Kairn/2xLK140/Aktiv/Ninka system. I would like to upgrade the Ninka’s and I need some advice regarding which speakers the LK 140’s could work well with and whether i can use my Aktiv cards with other speakers (i understand they only work with Linn speakers). I will probably be buying the speaker 2nd hand and I’d like to discuss suitable options without budget before restricting it to a range. All advice & suggestions welcome.
Hey everyone, new to the forum to reach out for info I cannot for the life of me find on the internet searches .... background: After several years travelling for work I recently moved into my (hopefully) final home and unboxed the Linn kit I had in storage for a long time (Unidisk 1.1, Akurate Kontrol, 2x4200 Akurate amps) and hooked them up to my floorstanders I got while in Canada. Awful. I recognised that several years in a shipping container had done for the speaker driver units but all the Linn kit worked 1st time AOK. Wonderful, even the Unidisk shrugged off all that time in socially distanced isolation. I had always promised myself to go full Linn one day so got a set of 242s and aktiv cards from a hifi dealer on ebay who said he'd configured them before shipping for aktiv. I figured out the aktiv card line up in the 4200s and pwoered it up .... it was much better ... but still not right. I went into the back of the 242s and saw two parallel set of connectors labelled active and passive: makes sense the passive set go to the xovers and active set bypass them direct to drivers and it looks like common return wires so you should only need to connect one or the other. But both were connected and I found reversing them as per colour labelling improved it massively but the sound is still not quite right. I had to have *both* active and passive connectors plugged in to get sound to the driver - wierd since it looks like with a common return on them I shouldn't need to do this. I did swap outputs from the 4200s to ensure the correct aktiv card was going to the correct driver and you can't miss it when it's wrong so I am happy the aktiv cards line up with the drivers. I could go back to start at all passive but again the 242 cabling needs to be checked. Forum help Long story short I want a wiring diagram for the 242s to figure this out without disassembling them from the front, or clear guidance on how to go about confirming correct aktiv configuration. No manual I found describes the passive-active switching/set-up process. Maybe I need an installer's manual, owner's doesn't have this. I could use the same for the installation of aktiv cards to the 4200s just in case I missed a step there too. I need to get these basics checked before I look at the possibility of degraded quality of different components in the system.
Hi, I have 4 x LK100 and a pair of keltiks. I need an extra pair of bass cards and am having trouble finding a pair. Any suggestions? Can I use Kaber cards? Thanks.
