  1. Hi All Fellow wammers have offered some great advice over the years, so I'm hoping someone could help me as I try to go properly digital? I currently play large ALAC collection stored in MusicBee through a usb connection from my laptop to an audiolab 8200cdq preamp/dac (with 2x 8000p to biamp, going to a set of Monitor Audio 703s). It sounds great, but I would like to lose the wires and go for a wifi or bluetooth connection. I'm a luddite on the digital front and cannot for the life of me work out what I need to be able to stream ALAC files from my lap via wifi to the audiolab. Can anyone recommend a wireless receiver that would connect to my audiolab? And if so, how I go about streaming the files to it from my laptop (and/or phone)? The alternative would be bluetooth. I use bluetooth (arcam mini blink) in a second system in the kitchen and it's very good. But if I use bluetooth for my main system I'd like to go via aptx hd, which the mini blink doesn't support. I've been looked at the Audio Engine B1. It's got very good reviews, but is quite an expensive way to go. The audio engine is £150, and I would need to expand the memory on my phone to use this as the main streamer (since my laptop doesn't support aptx or aptx hd). That means buying a 256gb nano sd card for the phone to fit the whole collection on which for my Huwei Honor 10 is another £80. So £230 all in ... I am also unsure about the quality of aptx hd vs wifi connections since I've not used either. A long post, and asking for a lot of advice I know (!). But can anyone help? I'm basically after the best, reasonably priced solution. Cheers Jon
  2. Pair of Dali IO-6s for sale. Two months old, in as new condition with about 10 hours on them. They come with the original case, wires, documentation and box. The Dalis are neutral and balanced. They sound better than the Sony 1000MX3s, B&W PX7s and Momentum 3s IMO. Selling them as they have been replaced with headphones that cost a lot more. £295. Price includes P&P in the UK. I can ship further afield at the buyer's expense. Payment: cash and collection (SW London), check, bank transfer or PayPal gift. Thanks for looking! PS Some more information from Dali: Make music on the move a joy again, with the DALI IO-6 Active Noise Cancellation headphones. Hear more of the music, more of the time with Active Noise Cancellation Perfect for commuters and travellers alike, the DALI IO-6 headphones build on the already impressively isolated IO-4 model by adding ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). This cancels out low frequency background noise to make your audio more audible. Perfect at a station, airport or when traveling on public transport, active noise isolation simply lets you hear more detail. If you need to let the outside world in – when asking for directions or listening out for Tannoy announcements, for example – simply switch the headphones to Transparency mode. The DALI difference Highly regarded for their home hi-fi speakers, DALI headphones seek a similar balance from their headphones. Using custom-designed, 50mm paper fibre drive units, the IO-6s achieve the true DALI sound. Natural yet dynamic and with very low distortion and colouration to the sound, theses DALI headphones let you hear right into the heart of the music. Bluetooth wireless connection Featuring a top quality Bluetooth connection, the DALI IO-6 headphones make the perfect match for your smartphone, portable Hi-Res player or other suitable. Compatible with Bluetooth aptX, aptX HD and Apple AAC, these headphones get the highest quality wireless connection your device allows. If you prefer a wired connection, the IO-6 is also supplied with USB-C and analogue 3.5mm cables. Class-leading 30 hours battery life Unlike many ANC wireless headphones that need charging every day, the 30 hour battery life on these ‘phones could keep you going for days on end. What’s more, a full recharge takes just two hours via the standard USB-C connector. Connect the 3.5mm analogue cable and they’ll run in passive mode, without the need for any battery charge. Designed for comfort For maximum comfort, the IO-6’s ear pads are made from memory foam. The pads are covered in soft, synthetic leather, giving a comfortable and hardwearing finish. The headband is also padded and, with the tilt adjustable earpads, a comfortable fit is guaranteed.
  3. Hi - i have quite a revealing hifi system NC400+Ellam flex 3W(diy). CD is my main source and will remain so for serious listening. Q; for A/V, convienence, and occasional exploratory listening from spotify; is the addition of bluetooth a disaster as far as sound quality is concerned, or given the source (chromebook utube spotify at el) will the gains made by connecting more directly be minimal? Q; regarding direct connection to dac from a chromebook or computer; my dac only has optical or coax spdif options. is there much quaility loss using a usb to optical convertor? i note there are also hdmi to audio coax devices readiliy available - does anyone have experience of the quality vs these two, or any other thoughts regarding a possible later more serious connection of computer to dac? ( am thinking of a chinese audioengine copy)
