  1. There used to be a thread on the lost Linn Forum, but this might still be interesting: Any Majik/Selekt/Akurate/Klimax DSM owner considering to archive/save Vinyl digitally in HiRes should give Songcorder a try. It‘s free - donations to the developer via PayPal are most welcome - and I love Songcorder 🥰 Just listening to Crosby & Nash‘s 1975 „wind and the water“ in a 24/96 version of a superb quality 2016 vinyl reissue I recorded with Songcorder this evening. 4. Sold Selling some vinyl as a job lot. Honest discriptions where it matters - likely similar to many others on the forum’s samples. Selling as one job lot - all in (nonsplitting). I need the space, the cash and all gone. So priced keenly! Don’t laugh please 🙂 The very good, rare and special: 1) Eddy Grant - Killer on the Rampage. This is a sample copy from the CBS/Sony Hong Kong Ltd to a DJ called Larry Ottaway. Broadcast notes in with the lp. Reckon this could valuable and collector piece. I’ve not used this sample. http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/tees/hi/tv_and_radio/newsid_9167000/9167800.stm (Larry mentioned down below on link). Very good condition. 2) A very rare piece! Michael Ruff - Once in a Lifetime. Or played since I sourced it on line from a dealer some time back. Good condition. 3) Another rare beast! John Campbell - One Believer. I prefer this to the Howling lp. Took me ages to find one from a dealer. Very good condition. 4) John Campbell - Howling Mercy reissue. 180g, bought new, played twice. 5) Queen Greatest hits, 180g. Bought new a couple months ago, played once! 4 lp’s in set. Now the ‘good’: 6) Another Eddy Grant - Killer on the Rampage. Good condition. I used this one so as not to spoil the snazzy lp mentioned above. 7) Rare lp, Rickie Lee Jones - Girl at her Volcano. Excellent condition. Played once by me. May have been NOS 🤔. Old and a little tatty sleeve. 8) 3x Rickie Lee Jones - self titled. I think one is new, still sealed 🙂. The new lp is made in Netherlands by WEA records. The other is Warner Bros, made in England, very good condition. The 3rd copy is also a Warner Bros but made in the USA, good condition. 9) 2x Tracey Chapman. Both Electra labelled, made in Germany. Both Ok, one in better condition than the other. 10) Lorde - Pure Heroine. Superb album. 180g. Played it about 20 times. I bought this new. I think on one track there is a skip, or maybe a pop 🤔 11) Eric Clapton MTV unplugged. I bought this new some time back for £27. This is the double lp set. They now sell for £50+ used 😳. Could do with a clean. One initial track has a pop 🤷‍♂️. A clean may sort it 🤷‍♂️. 12) Louis Armstrong & Ellington - the Great Reunion. Love this album 🙂. I bought it new, played maybe 4 times. Excellent condition. 13) Fleetwood Mac - greatest hits. Bought new - reissue, played maybe 5 times. 14) Fleetwood Mac - Rumours. I bought it new - reissue, played no more than 5x. 15) Nirvana - MTV Unplugged. Awesome album. I bought this new - reissue, played once. 16) Prince - Purple Rain. I bought this new - reissue, played twice. I don’t think a good recording. 17) Adele - 21. I bought this new - reissue, played once. 18) Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon. I bought this new - reissue, played once, 180g, comes with posters. 19) Coldplay - MYLO. Bought new, played a few times. Good condition. Dusty as sat around for ages - Not a fan. 20) Seasick Steve - Man from Another Time. Very good condition. 21) Katy B - Light On 12” maxi single. 22) Jewel - Serve the Ego. This is rare. Maxi 12” single with DJ remixes. Sell for about £20+ 2nd hand. For the fans really. 23) INXS - Never Tear is Apart 12” single. I bought this new and played it about 10 times. The rest has some that are good condition, some not so much. Some I’ve never played. All bought used. Some I’ve not checked really (other than look good enough to use - but I’ve not played them): 24) ZZ Top - Eliminator 25) Bob Marley - Exodus 26) Eddy Grant - Walking on Sunshine single 12” single 27) Fine Young Cannibals - The Raw and the Uncooked 28) 2x Tabitha Tikaram - Ancient Heart 29) HiFi Sound - stereo test record 30) U2 - The Unforgettable Fire 31) U2 Live - Under a Blood Red Sky 32) KWS - Hold back the Night (that 90’s banger - Please Don’t Go) 33) Eddy Grant - Do you feel my Love. 12” single. 34) INXS - Kick 35) Heart - Little Queen 36) Bangles - Greatest Hits (for the fans 🤣- sorry) 37) Joe Cocker - With a Little Help from my Friends (looks in good condition) 38) Clannad - Past.Present 39) Gerry Raffert - City to City 40) Beatles - Abbey Road 41) Heart - Heart 42) Paul Young - No Parlez (X2 🤷‍♂️) 43) Paul Young - The Secret of Association 44) Suzanne Vega - Suzanne Vega 45) Suzanne Vega - Solitude Standing 46) Chris Rea - Road to Hell 47) Terence Trent D’Arby - Hardline 48) Phil Collins - Serious Hits Live 49) Dire Straits - Vertigo (has that sweet track - 6 Blade Knife) 50) Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms 51) Beatles - Band on the Run 52) Dr Alban - One Love 12” single 53) Hits 4 54) Cyndi Lauder - I Drove all Night 12” maxi single 55) T’Pau - Rage 56) T’Pau - T’Pau 57) Sister Sledge - We are Family 58) The Cream of Eric Clapton 59) Spice Girls - Spice 60) Erasure - Circus 61) Tom Watts - Real Gone (2lp set) 62) Eagles - Their Greatest Hits 63) The Greatest Hits is the 80’s 64) Aha - the Blood that Moves the Body 65) Sinead O’Connor - I do not want what I haven’t Got 66) Supertramp - Brother Where You Bound 67) Lionel Richie - Back to Front 68) The Awards 1989 compilation 69) Kim Carnes - View from the House 70) Carly Simon - No Secrets 71) Eddy Grant - Till I cant take Love no More 12” single 72) The Golden Hits of Sandy Shaw 73) Alison Moyet - Raindancing 74) Black - Wonderful Life 75) Pat Benatar - Tropico 76) King - Step in Time 77) ELO - Out of the Blue (2lp set) 78) Transvision Vamp - If Looks could Kill 12” maxi. Amazing track. Pop at the start for a few rotations. Then small singles: 79) Opus - Life is Life 80) Paul Lekakis - Boom Boom 81) Midnight Oil - Beds are Burning 82) Cerys Matthews - Open Roads £195 incl UK post or, £170 collected - I’ll pack in box and leave out on the drive for collection etc, practising safe distancing. Will wipe box with disinfectant wipes.
  5. (Early) New Year greetings to all you vinylistas. I have recently sniffed around a turntable or two for my third "sandpit" system, with you-only-live-once ringing in one ear and being-able-to-eat-would-be-nice ringing in the other; I ultimately decided that discretion is the better part of valour (at least for the rest of 2018...) but looked at some superb tables, both original and modded, with and without arms, with and without carts, belt and direct drive, Japanese and British... at great prices. I thought fellow wammers might like to give their imaginations a workout as a break from the pressures of Christmas and Brexit... not to help me find my own turntable but just as a general exercise in Wamship. (See related threads with other budgets) Here are the competition rules then. Budget £500 (not "if you can stretch...") But you don't need to spend it all! A great looking and sounding deck for £150 will do nicely, thank you Suitable for the widest range of music from gentle classical to full-on rock Complete turntable including deck, arm, cart and power supply (inc any adaptors if not 240v) No restriction on belt/direct drive, MM/MC or country of origin Can be used or new but... ... must not need any repair work or DIY skills (just turntable setup) - so no doer-uppers Must be in very good cosmetic condition (in case anyone finds specific examples) There will be no judging and no prizes. Everyone's a winner here. I might post an example myself later. Enjoy! Nigel

  9. Vinyl sales seems to be a little more restrictive! than I. Thought http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-44121657
  10. Not sure this is in the right place? I'm tired of trying to look at the skinny spine of my records to see what they are, and I want to make a move to record storage that's more like you would find in a record shop, so that I can see the entire front side of the sleeve and flip through as I wish. I've found some bits that have loads of storage, but it seems anything of interest to me is sourced from the US and shipping costs are about the same as the product itself. Has anyone here had the same issue and found an alternative in the UK? Cheers C
  11. The reselling, remastering, reissuing, box setting, cash cow continues with one of THE finest albums of the 90's. The question remains, why does it need to be remastered? Not do a proper job first time round Mr Godrich? https://oknotok17.wasteheadquarters.com/products/boxed-edition
  12. So I'm nearly all prepared for manual cleaning of my LPs, with a nice bottle of L'Art du Son and various other bits and bobs, but I wanted a broken turntable to sit the records on as I clean them, to make it easier. Seems to be what a lot of people do. Anyway it's staggering how much money people want for some piece of crap that is spares or repairs, but I have now ordered one. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00I9AXYUQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Coming to my nearest Amazon locker tomorrow (didn't know they did Sundays) Not sure if the lack of a spindle will be an issue or not. I'll probably use two microfibre cloths on the "platter" surface, one for the uncleaned side as I do the first side, and the other for the cleaned side as I do the second side. Anyway, seems like a reasonable and cheap alternative to using a busted turntable, plus it will store away in a very small space, which is another consideration. I'll see how I get on and report back, I'm expecting inky blacks to match the platter
  13. PE 1010 Turntable: From: £1,653 German turntable manufacturers Perpetuum Ebner become the 30th brand in Elite Audio's portfolio. The company was first established in 1911 as "PERPETUUM" by Josef Steidinger. Since then it has been evolving and creating high-end audio components for audiophiles across the world. The plate changer PE 10 was introduced in 1949, and is still available today in it's upgraded form, the PE 1010. The brand operated for decades, all the way up to 1973, when it was no longer in operation. Over four decades later the brand was rejuvenated by Wolfgang Epting and WE Audio Systems. The PE 1010 and PE 4040 became the flagship products that brought Perpetuum Ebner back to life. With former engineers from Dual (a brand started by Gebrüder Steidinger) coming on-board, Perpetuum Ebner was back in full-swing. With four different turntables* on its roster, WE Audio Systems is truly reviving the legacy of Josef Steidinger and the rich history of Perpetuum Ebner. Elite Audio is the official UK distributor of WE Audio Systems. We offer an excellent 30-day, no risk trial on selected products allowing you to try out audio components at home with your own system. A generous part exchange is also available allowing you to upgrade for less. To find out how much your old hi-fi components are worth, take our part exchange challenge now. Alternatively, you can contact Elite Audio via email: info@eliteaudiouk.com or telephone: 020 3397 1119 for more information. *The PE 1000 is coming soon. Keep your eyes on our website.

  15. Two interesting stories today on the Beeb. One on the continuing rise in vinyl sales with predictions of over 4m vinyl sales this year (2017). A lot of people were saying they liked the whole experience of vinyl as well as the lovely sound of vinyl. Not sure too many had turntables but I do not care as long as sales continue. The other story was on R4 on the rise of audio cafes. I went to Spiritland in Kings X and we listened to their £500K system. To be honest it was not that impressive. They were playing bland soul music at a low level. My wife was unimpressed. What has other people's experiences been at these venues? Would it be better to return in the evenings to get a better impression?
  16. Having a clear out of surplus/duplicate vinyl: The Jam ‎– This Is The Modern World [2014 reissue] - £6 SOLD The Jam ‎– Setting Sons [2014 reissue] - £10 SOLD The Jam ‎– Sound Affects [2014 reissue] - £10 SOLD The Jam ‎– The Gift [2014 reissue] - £10 SOLD Electric Light Orchestra - Out of the Blue [2012 Music on Vinyl reissue, 2 x 180g] - £15 Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms [2014 reissue 2 x 180g] - £15 SOLD All were all bought by me new, are in excellent + condition, having only played a handful of times. In the case of the Jam reissues, they were only played the once. Each disc has been cleaned with my Okki Nokki and the vinyl slipped into brand new Nagaoka anti-static record sleeves. I have several purpose made record mailers, which I will reuse, so posting will be at cost. Not having posted records before, I have no idea what the costs will be, so we can discuss this via PM if your interested in any of the above. Cheers Pete
  17. hi all, any members with thoughts on a mysterious buzz that has appeared when playing vinyl. Setup is Rega Planar3 with ortofon mm cartridge (new) and Project phono preamp going into exposure 3010 amp and out to Ruark Equinox speakers. Working really nicely, then I went away for the weekend (teenage son had friends round??). Came back, massive constant buzz on phono input both channels (all other inputs working fine). Buzz much louder than the music. really loud continous buzz. Not like an earth buzz. 1) Removed phono preamp, plugged turntable directly into phono input - very soft (obviously) but you can hear music and no hum 2) Retained phono preamp, disconnected turntable. Still exactly the same massive hum. 3) Removed l and r channel phone input from preamp to amp one by one. Buzzing disappeared from disconnected channel 4) Switched off power to preamp. Buzzing stopped 5) Replaced the leads connecting the preamp to the phono input of the exposure. No difference, still massive buzzing So at this point you're thinking - the phono preamp has gone, right? But no. I borrowed a different phono preamp and the noise was different, but still there, still much louder than the music. What's going on? Any brainwaves greatly appreciated, thanks!

  20. Here is the collection - 4000 vinyls. Its a merged collection so some duplication of items as a result but an enterprising buyer could sell those on I am sure Some items like the two Kate Bush box sets going on discogs for up to £500, some other albums well over £100. Mostly post rock and indie so limited edition vinyl pressings and first editions in the main. Some more mainstream stuff but not much. Quite a bit of zappa vinyl. Second hand record dealers give about 30-50% of retail price in general but most of these going for retail or above on discogs so that wouldn't be a fair estimate I think. New cost would be around £50k I guess for this collection and it would pretty much the same on discogs. Willing to discount 20% for a quick sale of a whole collection (£40k). I might consider splitting back into the two original collections. Time wasters, chancers, tyre kickers, low ballers, numpties, beggers and micky takers respectfully ignored Based in Eastbourne Docucoll1.xlsx
