Audio Note Japan S9

Hi I am looking to get a SUT for my system, has anyone got info about the above it was made in 1987, has a captive output leads. Any help would be great.

I believe it's a lower priced alternative to the S6/S7. I compared to my SFz some time ago and the SFz was a little better, but it wasn't night and day.

Hi Will it work with my Dorian that has an out put of 0.5mv

I would say it's not a great match as it's designed to work specifically with the Audio Note Io cartridges with an output of 0.05-0.1mV.

Do I understand that the Audionote Japan S9 unit can be bought on occasion for 1000 pounds or thereabouts in the UK? Is it not nearly as good as the new AN UK version of the S9? Thank you.

Yes they can be bought fairly cheaply if you're lucky.

No the AN UK S9 is a totally different beast and frankly in another league.

Agree with Papa here,

I have heard the AN Japan S9, it is not as good as an SFz or S6 both of which I have heard in my system.

It doesn't come near the AN UK S9 which I have also heard in my system and have tried to forget as it will be beyond my reach for a very long time!

This does not mean the AN Jap S9 isn't a very good SUT, if I had heard it in isolation I would be very happy to own one. I have seen them on sale for about £1000 from time to time.

I know some early kit used FETs (tubes were used in the power supply) and that the FETs are now all-but unobtainable. But that is about it... :?

2-4K suggests a ratio of about 1:40 which would likely be too much for a cartridge with 0.5mV output. 1:10 or 1:15 would be more appropriate

You need to own some Kondo to be initiated.

cables will get you entry at Neophyte Level and then you work your way up through the ranks gaining knowledge at each stage.
