I bought a used BMW 320iSE on a late 52 plate, fully loaded, cruise control, tiptronic, leather, xenons, 'face-lifted').

But now I'm feeling a bitbored. Despite it's great handling and fairly perky engine (24 valve 6 cylinder 2.2 delivering 168 bhp), I'm finding it a bit dull.

I used to own a Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 Selespeed. Had that from new (cost 17.5k on a W plate, p/x against the BMW was 3.5k) and it had a load of faults - big ends went due to low engine oil (it drinks alot of oil), front suspension brushes replaced twice, selespeed gearbox missing 3rd gear - but I miss it.

I must be mad, but I'm considering another Alfa. Perhaps a 147...:green:

Any thoughts? :Not Sure:

What's your budget, and how old are you prepared to go?

Unless you need the doors, I'd say an Alfa GT coupe

I suspect the brera is better but haven't got my mits on one yet; the GT is a lovely car, though, and there are some cracking prices for them

Well, I paid 13k for my BMW. Don't want to pay any extra once I sell it. I've had my beemer for 4 months now so shouldn't make a loss at all.

MIB, you were right.

Craig, I know a bloke who's had a GT for two years. He's had loads of problems with it. 147's, for some reason, seem to be much more reliable.

Can't afford a Brera...

The place I normally go for my Jags has a 166 3.0 V6 manual, 99V with all the toys for £5k.

(And it's a p/x, so you could knock them down a bit.)

How about a Masserati BI-turbo in red. It is not boring. Leather and aircon. Selectable suspension settings.

Fully watercooled stailess steel intercooler system.

There is no alfa that will keep up with this even with the boost turned off.

A very interesting car 2 +2 .

PM an e-mail address and pics can be sent.

No it is not mine but a friends and my wife won't let me buy it so I have to have the Impressions instead and stick to the 528i as family transport.

MIB, Yoda. Two words:

Running Costs

I'm waiting for the right 147 I've decided. I want a low-milage (less than 20k) 2.0 TS or Selespeed.

Dark metallic blue, grey or black with leather interior. Too many light metallic blue ones for sale - though I saw one with 11,000 miles on the clock for less than 6k!

I've been browsing Auto Trader and there are some fine examples around.

I reckon I mightsell my BMW once the road-tax is due for renewal in a couple of months.

Just saw the mileage on that 166 3.0 v6. 74K miles! Ok for a beemer. Last legs for an Alfa... (my 156 was knackered by the time it did 69K...)

Knock them down to £4k for the 166, then you've got £9k left for fuel. Any major problems, just throw it away and buy another one. It's called bangernomics.

Sorry, Picard: there aren't any exciting BMW's. It would be like an interesting mime, or something.

In fact, all German cars except Porsches are as dull as ditchwater. And some of the Porsches (Boxster :puke:) aren't much cop for that matter.

It's only a 3.2. It will do over 20mpg most of the time. Servicing and parts are much, much cheaper than BMW, Mercedes (or Alfa!). Insurance is cheap. And they cost hardly anything to buy.

I had an XJS 5.3 litre V12 before this one. Now that was expensive to run.

How about... a bit of a compromise? Fairly sensible... :Not Sure:

Looking at Z3M's currently. Within budget...

It's fast, but that isn't the same as exciting. I've driven the regular A4 and it is vile and horrid in every possible way, so I can't imagine that a faster one would really push the right buttons for me.
