Right, so threads here mainly point out studio albums rather than compilations supposedlyforreasons of coherency (eg consisting of artists musical view oremotional flow of themoment, that is appealing to the listener)where compilations often are released to once again cash in on an act.
But a compilation can also be a usefulmethod to become acquainted with the work of an artist, inviting the listener to explore things further. And there are labels like Rhino who succeed to compile an (or various) act’s best or most interesting work in any kind of artistic (relating toperiod or genre) order.
What fine compi’s put you on track of anact, or do you simply like for any (well, pleasure of listening of course) reason.
I'll kick off with the next ten ‘indispensables’:
Neil Young – Decade
Supremes – Ultimate Collection
Creedence Clearwater Revival – Chronicle, Vol. 1
New Order - Substance
Madonna – Immaculate Collection
V/A - The Story of Jamaican Music: Tougher Than Tough (Box)
Peter Tosh - Scrolls of the Prophet: The Best of Peter Tosh
V/A - One Kiss Can Lead to Another: Girl Group Sounds Lost and Found (Box)
Aretha Franklin – Queen of Soul (Box)
Phil Spector – Back to Mono (Box)
More to follow soon. :dude:
