Ooh, by the way Stewart after reading your excellent and glowing review of your Acoustic Solid Machine Small I've been doing a bit of research on it. Fingers crossed, all things being well (

:upgrade:
pray.gif.84955f3b1709939cd9186fd2e3d88a8e.gif
) by this time next year I'll be in the market for a new TT. I've been window shopping for months and have a mini shortlist which the Acoustic Solid has been added to, I probably would never have come across it otherwise, it really seems to fit the bill on paper (size, looks, upgradeability etc)! Just wanted to say thanks for that

I know it's a long way off, but any recommendations on tone arms? What would be the minimum level of quality you think would be suitable? Just so as I can get an idea of price and do some more window shopping;) My current deck is my first "proper" one, so tone arms etc are a bit of a grey area, been checking out ot the Hadcock jobbies though....

Any help gratefully received and thanks again!

P.S. I've only gone and hijacked my own thread!

Before anyone gets an excited and twitchy bidding finger, they aren't the 201s that the seller suspects they might be, but are either Model T or 4SP single play units (can't see enough detail to be sure). Either way, they date from the 1950's (not the 30's!) and were commonly found in radiograms and record players of the period.

Still damn tasty, though....must resiiiiiist!!

Here is the list for you Shakey, I think that you will bre dumbstruck, at the sound quality if the t/t.#

1) the Cartridge Mans Conductor air beam.......................proly the best arm i have ever listened to!

2) Hadcock 242 cryo export............................................................. extremely fine

3) Origin Live Illustrious............................................a very good pick up arm

4)Mitchell rb250 rebuild...........................................a good arm

You will have noticed I have not included any of the SME arms here, thats coz I dont like them, and I dont buy stuff from people that make guns!

Stewart

ps if you want to have a listen then all you have to do is to turn up!

Hey, cheers Stewart! That's really handy!

I may well take you up on that offer, moving down south in a couple of months so I'll have to get my finger out! I'll be in touch.....

Thanks again!

Shakey to add to Stewarts's list of tonearms, my personal favourite at the moment which comes in at around £1k is the Moerch DP6.

Lovely arm.

If they were 1936--they would be before 331/3 & 45 rpm wus invented methinks.

like beobloke sez--they are 1950's.

Wow! That's a bit out of my league:( I have yet to research Stewart's recommendations, I'm slightly worried that they'll be out of my league too! Still, I was just after some pointers anyway:)

I so hope that I'll be able to afford a TT upgrade this year....you never know and it's good to have goals eh!

Just done some diggin' about and unfortunately the majority of those arms are out of my league. However, I had actually been reading about that particular Hadcock and I had my eye on it as it seems more within my grasp! Good to hear a somebody vouch for it!

Hmmm, just need to get my hands on some cash now!

I'm using an OL Silver mk2 on my Acoustic Solid. I suspect the deck could usefully use a better arm and later this year I may be in a position to try one, but still the TT front end sounds quite excellent, it knocks 7 bells out of my CDP.

Nice one, well I love my little TT. Just hankering for something a bit better. Having said that, I'm intrigued to hear one of these posher decks to see whether they really are that much better!

forgive my geographic ignorance but if Pudsey is anywhere near Stoke on Trent you're welcome to a glass of wine and a listen.

I don't think Stoke is that far away...which Acoustic Solid TT do you have out of interest?

Looks like there might be some busy weekends comin' up!
