I was asked to talk about 10 albums you need to hear before you die.

The 10 albums I used

The Skatalites - Foundation Ska

Blood, Sweat & Tears - Blood, Sweat & Tears

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique

Laura Nyro - Eli & 13th Confession

Pixies - Doolittle

Jimmy Smith - The Cat

The Black Keys - The Big Come Up

The Meters - Struttin'

Betty Davis - Nasty Girl

& (Saturday) Linton Kwesi Johnson - Bass Culture

( Sunday) Mr Bloe - Groovin' with Mr Bloe

I played a track off each of them.

I choose these albums to offer an alternative to the usual faire at shows

The system was supplied by Doug Brady HiFi

It consisted of

Bergmann Mange Turntable £9500

Koetsu Black Cartridge £2098

Accuphase C-47 Phono stage (£9200)

Gryphon Audio Essence Pre amp £15,000

Gryphon Audio Antileon EVO Mono blocks £66,000 a pair

Marten Parker Quintet Diamond Edition £37,000 a pair

Plus cables & other tomfoolery

It sounded well.

Pic 13, what's the kit? I see the Daleks invaded at some point (pic 3).

I'm enjoying reading all the show visitor's comments. Thank you,
Anybody have anything to say about 3 Square Audio? i believe they were demo'ing using an NVA amp and the synergy interests me.
Thanks

An old school friend of mine, Chris Liauw (we're talking 1979-85) is going to be there in room 238 with his rather individual Curvi-BMR speakers. If you see him, please do say hello and mention my name (David Lodge). https://curvi-hifi.com/

Would be interested to know how they sound too! https://www.stereonet.com/uk/reviews/curvi-bmr-loudspeakers-review

Regarding these. I heard them briefly towards the end of the show. Earlier on, I had entered the room and they had their other speakers playing. All I remember is that the first ones (albeit double the price!) were substantially better in every respect. As in, really very impressive.

When I walked in later and these ones were playing, my overall thought was that they were a bit of style over substance. Beautiful looking things that would happily sit in an egyptian art gallery (!), but very flat dynamics. It may have been the track playing, so happy to stand corrected, but as I'd specifically gone back in to hear those other ones playing again after being so impressed, I was left very cold.

Can't recall the name of the really good ones, but I'm sure they were also Curvi speakers. A new release perhaps? (they're the orange-coloured ones on the front picture of the youtube video above, which reminded me!). As in these ones: Screenshot 2022-06-24 093837.png

Thanks - the Curvi ones are the Curvi ones, the box ones are "Etude". Sounds like Etude are the ones to have!

Yes, that's the ones! Managed to find them online (https://etude-speakers.com/).

I thought they were the same manufacturer (i.e. Curvi), but it seems each design has its own website (although I see references to the same Curvi BMR drivers).

But yes, was very impressed by the Etudes.

I see a comment in their marketing hype stating: "The two force cancelled bass units share the same transmission line as the linear BMR array; this enables incredibly tight and well-timed bass with superb textural reproduction". I have to say, that is a pretty accurate description of what I heard. The bass was very impressive, especially given the room. Really tight and punchy.
