I have an LG Smart TV plus a Freeview 4K box and an Amazon Fire Cube . I also have a subscription to Now TV Sports . I can view the Now coverage through all of the above but I have noticed that the picture quality is better on the LG TV than the other two with the Amazon box being the worst . Not the case when it is Amazon content when the Cube is best so why the very easy to see picture difference using a smart TV.

Not familiar with any of the kit but...:
If it's not 4k native content but compressed/upscaled then the integration of the Now app on the LG may be better + less degredation/"adjustment" by the Cube and/or the Freeview box. And even if it is native 4k the latter still applies.
Also depends on which box is doing the upscaling or not and leaving it to the TV.
Amazon stream to an Amazon box = more optimised?
Just my thoughts with no evidence to back it up.

I get the impression that streaming through Apple TV box gives the best and most stable picture.
