After the Stranglers released Rattus, Heroes, B&W and Raven, they came up with the concept album Meninblack which is still completely incomprehensible to me. Everything afterwards is on the whole OK, nowhere near as good as the first 4 but with a few decent tunes. However, Meninblack stands out as the really duff offering.

Any other bands with a long history that are in the same boat ?

Ithink that is an exclelent album, more similar to theirvery early stuff.I would say that the Pumpkin's duff album was in fact Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness.

I think it has a lot to do with personal taste as well though, I mean loads my friends were really into Nirvana, and totally hated In Utero, where as I love it, although I think there is the odd occasion where a band release's an album that is universally rated shit

Not a band as such but Neil Young lost his way in the eighties with some dire albums:

Trans (1982)

Everybody's Rockin' (1983) (not to this they're not!)

Old Ways (1985)

Landing On Water (1986)

Life (1987)

This Note's For You (1988)

Thankfully he recovered in 1989 with Freedom.

Yeah - but had Under Pressure on it - a brilliant track.
Hey, I agree but one good track does not a decent album make. Easily my least favourite Queen album by several kilometres, in fact I never play it. Bit of a turkey!
