How do

I've decided to haver a year of fiddling. With 'Jap Crap' amps

Biccies playing around with the JVC amp has me a-thinking about a year of tinkering with different amps that i can get off eBay. I'm gonna be travelling a lot this year, so don't have as much time as I would like for listening, but have plenty of time for surfing from hotel rooms

So apart from the JVC that Biccy has made famous, can any of you suggest some good Jap amps that I should be searching hi and low for?

Daft as it sounds, I just fancy trying a few out throughout the year, so they should be available in a manner (price) that'll allow me to sell em on without losing much.

Max budget is 500 quid

might be a touch over budget though.

I'll have a look at some options for you though

a bit over budget - but great value for monoblocks/pre/tuner

in budget this one - but don't know how good it is personally

Thanks Biccy, I'l take a look at these. I've come across the audioscope fella before, but always found him massively overpriced for those bits of kit that I knew about ...... so you have experience with em?

I don't think audioscope is overpriced personally - the guy knows his stuff and prices pretty fairly (in comparison to some) IMO.

the people who sell on eBay tend to be a touch cheaper - like on-and-off hifi (who I bought the JVC from) but audioscope is good.

I think that sort of stuff is rarer in Germany and Europe than it is here - the prices of the Jap crap (more common in europe than UK) is much more competitive

Check out amps from Luxman too!

Such as this fine example on German eBay (where many of the best Jap Crap bargains can be found).

Not Japanese I know, but earlier, say mid eighties/early nineties, Harman Kardon amps are worth a punt. Manyexamples on German eBay. This one is only £130 and it'll blow away many amps below £500!

I had one of these in a 2nd system. Very musical amp with wonderful bass!

Could Rotel be considered Japanse? Their HQ is based in Japan and all the stuffs built there, but the transistors come from the UK and all their stuff is designed in the UK. They're also owned by B&W who are of course english.

Some beautiful stuff there, some much better looking than todays popular kit.

I've still got one of those Aiwa cassette decks with the sticky out shelf thing up in the loft.

I can also remember a lot of the early nineties stuff from when it came out Sony R1, Yamaha CDPs and Noel Keywood drooling over the Nakamichi Dragon.

Ahhh nostalgia.....
