A workmate has killed of his cd63 so as a favour I have been looking around eBay and have noticed with Marantz cdp's some have the KI Signature prefix some don't.:Not Sure:

Is there a difference or is it all hype , by difference I mean is one any better than t'other ?????or is it bullshit.

copper tends to be the difference. Sometimes some improved components - Silmics tend to be KI's favs.

the CD63KI was considerably better than the CD63SE

the CD17KI is not as much of an improvement over the CD17

not sure about any others

KI version was supposedly voiced for audiophiles, may be worth a bit extra,

In terms of re-sale, the KI is the better investment.

In terms of sound, the KI amps are miles better than the standard range.

Not much between the CD players though.

Had a CD6000KI. Never heard the bog-standard CD6000, or CD6000 OSE orCD6000 OSE LE or Heart CD6000... Paid £375 sold it for £275. So can't really complain about its resale value.

Not a bad machine at all. Very well built for the money. Not bad resolutionandquite refined. Surprised by its weight (which while not the final arbiter of quality still adds some reassurance) when I first removed it from the box.

Review here if anyone is interested:

Well whilst browsing Fleabay I stuck a bid on a Marantz cd17 mkII and won. £276 . There was also a KI signature version but following advice (Biscuit) only amps have a real improvement in sound quality , and dude with twated 63 said he would give me £300 for my Arcam.

What cdp is the better of the two , honest opinions please.

I take it the 16 bit versions used the Philips TDA1541A DAC, which i had in my lightly modded Arcam Alpha. Sounded pretty good. Not far behind a Cyrus CD8x. Not sure about the later KI sigs but i reckon they will be quite smooth sounding.

hi the cd 17 is a better player, and i love it if you fit a clock to it it opens the sound stage more clarity and focus plus this player has very good vocals as well
