Should be a good combo that - the video is supposed to be very good if that matters to you. Be interested to get your views on the AF for faster moving things, I’ve stuck with DSLR Nikons because I’m not convinced the mirrorless are quite there yet. Sony AF clearly is, as @unintended1 demonstrates in the Twitter thread hereabouts, but they’re not my cup-of-tea (technical term).

I had a Leica 180 Telyt-R and 2x APO, an optically very high quality system to 360mm focal length, manual focus and on a Leica M10 without any image stabilisation, pretty perfect for safari where most things are bone idle and are either static or slowly wandering around. It was no good for whales at Husavik in Northern Iceland. Anyway, I sold it back to the guy I bought it from as he wanted it back after a few years. I've got whales coming up again next year and wanted to help my son out with a digital body. This one was £1450 including a mount adapter (normally £260), whereas the Sony AR7 III was £2,100. The touchscreen menu system on the Z6 is magnificent, I just need a week to learn how it works. There last DSLR I had was a Canon 350D, about 2006 or 2007.

I have Nikon D3400, Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3, Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

I'm longing for Nikon D850. I'm trying to save up money to afford it

I have recently inherited a Nikon D600 along with a bevy of Nikkor lenses.

The camera is approaching ten years old and has been used extensively for my son’s professional still and video work but still looks in very good condition, though I think I should get the sensor cleaned and checked over. Though I have always had a camera of some kind, my first was a Russian made Zorki 4, its a great pleasure to be handling a real quality camera with wonderful lenses like the 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.8. A friend who is both a professional photographer and Nikon devotee recommends I seek out a 24-70mm Nikkor,  so eBay here I come.

Leica man me, I find using a camera so much more satisfactory than using my very good iPhone 14pro, like vinyl v streaming I suppose.
The GAS is very similarly addictive.
My photo kit buying and selling has largely taken over from the hi fi but is gradually coming under control, what next I wonder?

Having just bought a decent pair of binoculars I’m thinking of giving wild life photography a try. I don’t have a long telephoto. I have a Nikon D600 and thought the Nikon 80-400mm would be a good place to start as s/h they don’t look to pricey.

Any recommendations.
