By the way, it sounds better with the oval logo badge, the rectangular one causes standing waves between it and the edges of the dustcover.  (What do you mean it isn't April 1st?)
A badge of any shape was an early example of 'upgrade strategy' when it was discovered that their presence introduced damping qualities that had a marketable value. The original LP12s had no such damping badge, and as the lid couldn't be removed without the use of a screwdriver it is a matter of simple logic to deduce that the difference between the old and the new is down to the addition of a badge!

Mine has a smoked lid without logo but does have a plastic support on the right hand side to prop it open.

Pre Valhalla.
