My system has changed 100% in the past few months so it's time for me to post a review of my new system:

I went from Naim CD3, Rega Mira amp and Rega Jura speakers to Copland CDA277, Densen Beat 100 and Monitor Audio GR20's. The Speakers only arrived yesterday but I can now hear what I always thought was a "high end" sound that i always thought was beyond my means.

I will add to this thread once the post coital glow from the speaker purchase has subsided, but after a day and a half of
stereo.gif.78ed128503393f1c4bf77692f274c985.gif
and
party4.gif.af93715a971cd102256f35cade2c9c1e.gif
and a bit of :pint:I can say that this is one hell of a coherent system at a price that is quite ridiculously low for the sound I have. The synergy has come about from good advice on the forum and no small amount of luck. The price has come from buying second hand from really nice mates that have given me a good price. Trust me lads, your babies are being well looked after and the new ownder has a big BIG grin on his face. This system is far greater than the sum of its parts and well, it sounds like this....

My System is now almost as good as this forum;). It does tight controlled bass, wide and deep imaging, detail and musicality. It is a very "clean" and detailed sound that may not be to every ones taste. It has enough wamth, many would like a little more. However, I have now got what I like from HiFi and am a very happy chap.

I've got to a similar stage with my system - it sounds spot on now. Swapping rooms in the house I live in in June - the new room will be about twice the size and also means that my kit won't have to sit on the desk. In fact, I may have room for stands - this I think will make a signifcant diffrence to the speakers, as they sit on a desk now.

Its always a nice feeling knowing part of your kits sits in someone's system giving them pleasure. :dude:

PS. I've just noticed what time you posted this. As i said to another poster once . That tells its own story.

That detail, control, and musicality stems from the Copland source.

The fact that it's very "clean" has much to do with the GR20's I reckon.

Well the honeymoon is over and while I was getting all excited about the new tricks my system has I didn't notice all of things I had lost.

A warm and dynamic mid range for one. These have about the best top end I have heard, clear, detailed and fast. They also do OK bass, fast and tunefull, although lacking in slam. The midrange can be really nice, but only with certain types of music / recordings. The further I delve into my collection the more I miss the Rega's warm mid range and bass slam (although the bass authority amd control is great from the MA's).

I just turned off "the Box" from Orbitals In sides album as the bass just wasn't working right. It's meant to kick your teeth in not sound all bloody tunefull and clever. That is one of my favourite tunes, I got up and turned it off half way through.

Sometimes i think this is the best system in the world and can't imagine why I ever doubted it, and then nights like tonight when I play old favourites I find loads of new information at the expense of lots of other -better- information on the disc.

:Not Sure:

Hifi to some degree is all about compromises James. It seems incomprehensible that kit at full rrp of £1500 a piece can still not fufilll all that you want but thats the rub. The MA's areclean and i mean very clean. Detail is not a problem but think of it this way. The speakers are trying to be cohesive and seamless and thats a tall order at £1500 and actually thats a tall order at £5000. The Rega's it seems by your comments accentuated the midrange ( where most of the music resides) but were they a truly cohesive speaker by doing that. I'm not claiming the MA's are truly seamless but thats what they are trying to acheive.

I accept it won't be perfect at this price point. I suppose having used the Rega's for so long I have grown very used to the sound and it will take a while to tune in to the new kit. It's just frustrating that some old faves don't sound "better" .

I will have to give them longer and see if I can get into it. I can see the apeal of them, and they are excellent in so many ways. But hey just lack a level of excitement and I worry about that.

You might just be hearing your favourite CD's as they were meant to sound, as opposed to the way the Regas presented your music. You had the old speakers a long time, it'll take a while to get used to the new sound.

If you want some slam with the detail.. I've always found that exposure amps are hard to beat for warmth and BAM. Opening seconds of 'Lust for Life" by iggy pop is a good test for Big bassy Fun.

Part of the problem will be what you are accustomed to hearing, but part of the problem will be the presentation of the MA's. They are a clean sound for sure, bu I'm sorry to say that I have allways found them to be uninvolving. (I know im a Rega fan so pinch of salt and all that), and at times grating on the ear's. MA seem to design and build a hi fi speaker, rega seem to go for music first (in all the kit they make) if it plays good music they appear not to care too much if it is fashionable in its presentation style, if its the highest fi. Exposure and creek seem to have the same ethos, as do epos. Other than trying to tame the excess with cheap copper cable, (Van damme?), or learning to live with the style, could you get a local dealer to let you home dem some of the newer Rega's (5), Dyn's, or Neat's. The are a all to my ears a much warmer sound, and the Rega's and neats can really go with the flow.
