A brand New Naim CD 555 in sealed box up for grabs on www.hififorsale.com Why would anyone spend 15 large on a CD player, NOT open the box & try to unload it for £8000 ?? Without much success I might add, this is the 2nd or 3rd time it's appeared ! Curiouser and curiouser........

john.swan@virgin.net...I think I have some dealing with him before (not too sure). Stone audio selling cd555 for Ten grand-ish so if you work on 20%-35% margin profit for the hifi dealers the cdp could be have from manufacture for less than £8000. Or it may fallout from the back of big green van!

If he is a dealer might be he is no longer doing Naim and just wants or needs the dosh back

could be he bought and all his customers who he thought he had a chance to sell a 555 to are nt interested

also given recent rate rises and with two more to come, he thinks he has a cat in hells chance of selling such high end kit ?

Ive lost touch with the Naim prices, but maybe this doesnt include the PS and is not that cheap afterall??? PB??
Thats a possibility. He doesn't mention the PSU in the ad, but says the new£ was £14000, which suggests that it does include the power supply.( 555 player on it's own is £10,300) I still tend to think the dealer explanation is the most likely though.

I don't think he's a dealer, just a guy who chops and changes his kit every other day.

You cannot use a 555 Head unit on its own, it needs a 555PSU. The XPS2 will not woork with the 555 head unit.

The cost of a 555PSU is £4295 I believe,

It will be purchased by someone who already has a CDS3/555PSU or CDX2/555PSU,

Interesting....From stating that the list price for what he was selling (whatever)was £14000 this morning,(about the price of 555CD & 555PS). The ad. has been revamped this afternoon to say the list price was £11,800 NO PSU INCLUDED. Seems a bit of a co-incidence. What exactly ARE you selling John ??

Is £8000 ever a bargain?

20% discount. Decent but not great for something that doesn't do anything without another £4k spend.
