I've been a big fan of this album since it came out.

I'm trying to identify one of the samples used in 'Into the Fourth Dimension'

That's the one with Allegri's Miserere in it. there's some vocal samples - 'even though voyager has discovered dozens of new worlds...' and the samples from the Akai Multitrack recorderTest tape ('...reference proximity of 250nanowebers per meter...')

There's another classical sampleon this track - sounds like a minor-keyedbaroque violin concerto, which I should know but can't identify. does anyone know what it is?

I thought that it was all misrere. Have you seen the new re-issued 3cd 15th anniversary deluxe special edition digitally remastered version of the album with the rather splendid peel session that has just come out of this rather splendid album?

no, the miserere is choral only - alternating plainchant and polyphony.

the album was originally conceived as a 3LP set, must look out for the new version, but I've probably got all the mixes anyway

Might have to get this - does this have 'Little Fluffy Clouds' on it? A class song - was listening to it on the Pure Moods compilation the other day.

not heard it for ages...

Ithink it's amazing in parts but overall I do think it's a bit cheesy and annoying and over-rated. Certainly some of the Orb's own remixes of tracks from that album were far finer than the originals.

Orbus Terrarum is the best one in my opinion.

Top album above (IMHO). Probably their best recording, Music is stunning. I like Ultraworld though, a great album for vinyl veers from meandering notes to stunning impact of bass but has some weak patches in it. Also reckon UFOrb is a great album FWIW. Cydnoia is not mentioned much, I reckon its a stunner of an album.

I went to see The Orb at the ARt college in Belfast quite a few years ago and one of their early gigs. It took me a few days to recover!

Then I went to see them the next year in a place near Belfast......I had to chaperone three serious acid casualties and it took me nearly a week to recover. They specialised in a rare brand of total disorientation. Some of the best gigs I've been to.

I saw them again whilst training in Liverpool and they were total pants. They played from inside a giant pyramid and just made vast synth washes with no defined beat or melody. Ok for lying about in a stupor but useles if you want to dance!

CHeck out Blue Room cd Single at 39 minutes its great. I liked assassin as well.

They used to have some of the Dj's from a band called Bandulu who were awsome.

I went off the orb when Kriss Weston (aka Thrash) left, tbh.

I've heard stories of people giving up on the vinyl of Ultraworld after getting 3 duff pressings. so if you got agood one, thenyou did better than most. mine has some dimples, but plays ok. when I bought I didn't even have a 'proper' TT either. still play both vinyl and CD. also got 2 copies of the Aubrey Mixes on vinyl, but never bought the CD:doh:

I agree that it has some less good moments - Perpetual Dawn doesn't quite fit for me, and I'm less keen on Earth (Gaia) and A huge evergrowing pulsating brain that rules from the centre of the ultraworld, but overall its one that I like to put on loud with the lights out and just chill out to

Probaly one of the best CD singles I have ever bought. 39 minutes of sonic nirvana.

One of my favourites is the secret track on the end of the first disk of UFOff, the best of the Orb, it is a remix of Oxbow Lakes and is sublime.

Towers of Dub is another fave track.
