Tried a few including recipes from the web which involved alcohol ( from a Chemist) and washing up drops but have now settled on the bottles sold by Project for use with their record cleaners.  Recommended. ( and not expensive over time)

Make your own .. distilled water , ilfatol (a wetting agent that is like a pure detergent to ensure the water penetrates down into the grooves) and methyl alcahol (others say use isopropyl  but it was Keith Monks recommended that methyl was used and I think it is "purer")  I have been doing this for some years now.

Get your triple distilled water here - https://www.buydistilledwater.co.uk/home/7-triple-distilled-water-1-litre.html

Get your iflatol here https://www.wexphotovideo.com/ilford-ilfotol-wtg-agent-1l-wld-1021699/?mkwid=sJEUgmu3V_dc&pcrid=310558797571&kword=&match=&plid=&product=1021699&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwIyG876I5gIVGeDtCh1nnALuEAQYASABEgI10fD_BwE

Get your methyl alcohol here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Azure-Methanol-Pure-99-85-ACS-Methyl-Alcohol-Common-Laboratory-Solvent-1L/123152495497?hash=item1cac75f389:g:9lQAAOSwllpbBy9P

The recipe is (do not use any alcohol on 78s or acetates and as an okki sucks it all off well you can experiment with less alcohol in the recipe below)

RECORD CLEANING FLUID

To make 1/2 (half) Litre.

400ml Triple Distilled Water
100ml Methyl Alcahol.
2.5ml of Ilford Ilfotol.

Job done

The diy’er will enjoy making their own concoctions from distilled water & ilfatol etc.

Can’t be bothered with all that myself, so for an easy life, the ProJect “Wash It” does the trick very well indeed & I don’t think it’s expensive for the results you get.

I use Moth stuff, don’t even have to dilute it.... Might try the right stuff when this runs out just for a change though, the Moth fluid works well for me...

I love this stuff....few sprays on your brush of choice, move round the LP as it's spinning....only takes seconds to dry....leave no residue or smears...love it!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-Record-Solution-Antistatic-Restoration/dp/B00UP1ROV2/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Vinylclear&qid=1574796491&sr=8-2
I use both this and a home-mixed solution (welcome, Mr OCD) for relatively dirty or old vinyl, and the Vinyl Clear for new or clean LPs.

Generally, for older stuff a good wash and soak with the home-made liquid first, dry on the vacuum, then a surface go over with the commercial fluid.

The mix for the home-made is the pretty standard one, about 30% isopropyl alcohol, 70% distilled water (distilled, not just de-ionized) and a few drops of Ilfotol. It's easy to do and comparatively very cheap.

and have deep pockets lol (I am a tight old git - doing this saves a lot of dosh over a period .)
I'm a tight wad too ( so is my dad lol)  try those magic micro sponges ( a pound for a box at poundstretcher)  use distilled water ( I use tap water it's cheaper lol) works brilliant on lps..esp.old lps from charity shops gets the years of nicotine and coal smoke residue off like magic!

Oh dear - the additional particles and salts in tap water are not good (in my area the limestone doesn't help either).  I may be tight but no way would I use tap water (other than perhaps a first wash off of a very dirty record).  Ya pays your money and makes ya choice ..

If you use a record cleaning machine I find heating the cleaning solution to luke warm assists in cleaning the record ..

Yes good point..but to be honest I haven't noticed anything untoward..I'm 57 and the other day I wore my t shirt inside out the entire day and didn't notice..so my opinion probably isnt up to much! 😁

I use a spray that is normally used for cleaning safety glasses by UVEX..

Works a treat as a dilution with distilled water and ilfatol in my ultrasonic bath .... made by spider..and also as a direct spray with my project vacuum cleaner ..

Kindest regards Julian

Although methyl alcohol is found in many domestic applications such as windscreen washer fluid it is generally in very low concentrations..

When handling neat methyl alcohol / methanol , stringent precautions must be taken..if ingested even in small quantities it can lead to kidney failure and blindness...it must certainly be kept out of reach of children at all times....in the coatings industry in which I have worked for 45 yrs the use of methyl alcohol is highly restricted under COSH..and in undiluted form for professional use only...

Kindest regards Julian
