hi, is the newer Planet 2000 (around £300 used) worth the extra over the older series (£250 Used)?

is there a huge difference apart from looks?

I would go for the later model if there is only £50.00 in it. The build quality alone would make it worth the extra.,

I would go for the planet 2000 and make sure that there's a remote suplied. If you look around now at dealers you may find some at used prices when they are ex demo or even new and with full warrenty due to the coming of the new Apollo. Witch ever one you choose though they are all very well regarded players. Planet 2000 also is said to have better bass then then the new Apollo although this has some other merrits.

There's a guy on PFM who has just picked up a mk1 Planet and says it's not that far behind his Saturn in terms of performance. I can't comment on that, but I can say that £250 is way over the odds for an original Planet. I picked one from eBay for £130 and was expecting to pay no more than £150.

The Apollo is a fantastic cd player which is capable of giving far more expensive players a good run for the money (especially in terms of resolution and timing).

Well worth the £295 I paid for it.

The old Planets look too old, IMO, and for £50 extra, the 2000 is well worth it

If you do you will probably sell it for similar money, should it not work for you, but I would hang on for a 2000 model.
