I'm so taken with my Sony TA-FB920 QS amplifier that I'm wondering whether to have a go at an SACD player from the same range. Does anyone know anything about the musical qualities of the DVP-NS900V? It looks like a tank and gets well reviewed in some quarters, but more for DVD than audio applications. I'm using an Arcam CD73 at the moment, and if the quality of the Sony is likely to be much worse then I won't bother. I would like to try SACD though...

The dedicated SACD players I can see around at the minute look a bit more budget and less desirable. I'm trying to do it on a shoestring.

Here's to a beer in a few hours time,

Andy

DVP-S9000ES :^ I love mine, not tried SACD through it though.

Mine might be available only as I am tempted with another Battleship DVD player with digital inputs.

I've had a 900 a few times - its really nice.

The snob in me at the time shunned it to make way for an ES spinner, but I will be adding one to my system again the near future. It really should have been the S9000ES' replacement, the build is fantastic.

Hoops - I'm interested in the S9000ES if you do decide to sell it.

Thanks, that's all very helpful. The thing I notice with ES stuff is that people are a little bit wise to it and it tends to sell for quite a premium, though probably still under what it's worth. The QS on the other hand doesn't attract quite the same eBay feeding frenzy but is often very similar in build quality and performance.

After a few years of little british hifi I'm warming up to these big eastern brutes. Sayonara.

The NS900V (£50-75) is a cracking SACD & red book spinner. Nowhere near the build of a DVP-S9000ES though (£200ish). Also consider the Denon DVD-2900 very popular SACD/DVD-A and CD player around these hallowed halls.

Not too shabby to these ears for all discs that it spins (£75ish).

The Sony xa5400es is also a fine CD/SACD player. I've seen one or two for sale at reasonable cost. This could be another option.

Andy I ran a Sony NS900V (in effect a 940SQ) with a HK6550 and Dynaudio Contour 1.3IIs. A magical £600-700 system. You have a lovely system there. Explore speaker upgrades next if any ...!
