I've yet to hear better than this:

ply34s.gif

Supra Ply 3.4/S shielded speaker cable, £8.10/M here:

http://www.digi-shop.co.uk/shop/default.html

You may find it cheaper in Sweden, given that it's made there - there are a range of cheaper and similar-performing cables they make - the Classic 4mm at £3.60/M is probably more than good enough - I just like the idea of shielded cables!

The conductors are tinned - so no oxidation (copper) or tarnishing (silver) to reduce conductivity over time -a fit and forget option.

And all come in a very attractive "electric" blue sheath - high WAF I found.

I use the PLY 3.4/S in my main system and Classic 2.5 in my second system - both sound far better than the hateful QED I used before!

Until the last week I've been using QED Silver Anniversary. It suited my previous systems (Arcam/Mission, Arcam/ATC/Castle) but it doesn't suit the current Arcam/ATC/Dynaudio setup. It's a bit too hard and stark and bright.

So now I'm using this:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=13295&doy=7m10D

It's from Vandamme. I'm using the 4mm version and very good it is too. It hasn't taken anything away from what I love about the Dynaudios but it is definitely less hard, stark and bright. Just enough to restore a natural balance to the sound.

The only real problem is that it's cheap so most of you will disregard it. That's a shame.

Good stuff Van Damme, if you want straightforward copper cable, you can't beat it - not the slightest point paying a penny more...

Their website sells direct and has a few more options than Maplins stock: http://www.vdctrading.com/content.asp?SubsectionID=30
