Seeking advice, I am dipping my toe into higher resolution download, my existing dac has a usb input but is restricted to 16/44.1. The coax spdif input will go up to 192/24 and I therefore need guidance as to the best method to convert usb to spdif. Any help would be much appreciated

Get a USB to SPDIF converter with 24/192 ability. Plenty out there, look at the HiFace for starters.

I use a Resonessence Concero which can be used as a dac or spdif convertor. Usb in and a spdif digital cable or analogue RCA out. As good as any I have heard and better than most. Different filters if you want to get into that also. May be for sale in the next couple of weeks.

This does USB and firewire to SPDIF (coax and optical) and is a AD and a DA and a headphone amp and a lot more beside

I have one and it really is a bargain - circa 150 quid.

I'm currently in the process of auditioning some converters.

I had a MF V-Link2 and I currently have an SOTM on loan. The SOTM totally blows it away in every area. Next up is the SOTM with upgraded clock and power supply, then the Audiophilleo 1. I'll let you know my findings if you're still interested.....

Hello

I've tried the MF Vlink 192 , based on the Xmos , the Hi Face , and some DIY stuff ; the Kingrex ...

The MF V Link is quite good

But what is your source ? Computer ?

Cheers

I think the VLink2 was c.£200 from memory. The SOTM is c.£300 and WELL worth the outlay. How much more of an improvement you'll get by going the extra to the likes of the Audiophilleo (£700ish) I don't know yet. But if you can stretch to the SOTM you've got a high end product that's for sure. I'd buy the SOTM with confidence.

.....and it's upgradeable down the line by changing the clock and power supply when funds permit. Reassuring to know that you can getter performance without taking the hit when selling the original piece.

Check out the Ifi audio iLink. Great piece of kit. I auditioned a few converters up to £300 and it was the clear winner in my system.

I heard the same especially with iusb power.
Unfortunately my budget wouldn't stretch to the iUSB power so I opted for the AQVOX linear usb power supply instead.

IMO regardless which converter you buy it is definitely worthwhile isolating the converter from the pc power supply

Yeh they are supposed to bring a good improvement. I tried one on demo recently and it wouldn't work. I got sound but accompanied by a crackling noise....must have been some compatibility thing. Weird.
