Reading the s-h CDP thread I got the impression that some CDP's have digital in's to allow other equipment to use their DAC.

Is this so?

Is it just the Accuphase stuff, or do other fancypants CDP's offer this?

TIA, alex

Interesting, thanks.

I'm toying with a Squeezebox/similar and this might keep the box count sane.

Best get saving up then!

Don't overlook the Quad 99 CDP-2; 6 digital inputs, very fine sound and a comparative bargain at c.£1k.

Squeezebox is ace - I wouldn't discount the basic sound from it - it is very very good.

I'll do a write up in a bit on the squeezebox!

Not sure about other brands of MiniDisc decks, but I know for sure Sonyones can also act as a DAC, by simply selecting the required digital input (e.g. co-ax or optical) and then pressing Record with no disc in the deck. Certainly my old MDS-JE480 did and my JB980 does too, which it does a superb job at when fed with co-ax output from my Sony DVD/HDD recorder. I have also used it in the past with the optical out from my PC with great results.

Add Sugden Masterclass to the list of CDPs with two digital inputs for other kit

and the Stemfort DAC.

Toshiba SD-9500 do a search on the forum, when they come up on eBay et al they got for £250-400. A veritable bargain IMHO.

Blimey, they're all at it!

If I went down this route the CDP would have to better my existing Densen B400XS. I haven't heard (m)any of those suggested here, although by reputation alone the Opus21 is supposed to be better than decent.

lotsa fun, kind of player you can listen to forever, is it tonally accurate, who the fcuk cares when it sounds so good. Good call and reasonable price, as is the canbridge, as a punt Alex you'd do well to audition any of these 3, and use them as an adjunct to your current CD. As TOF said think of them like a dac with added transport.

Agreed - fully balanced class A output stage certainly lends ita degree ofwarmth, sweetness and lushness rare among CDPs, but not at the loss of extension in the frequency extremes. Not everyone's cuppaT, but then what is?

As correctly mentioned by Harv above my Audio Analogue Maestro has a digital input as well, which I currently use with the output from my DVD player.

Paul it's a little gem, I love the sound it makes, thing is I reckon 90% of folks would prefer this to many critically acclaimed players at much higher price tags, they not so easy to obtain, so hang on ot it.

Blimey! Whatever next - we agree on something!

Will Shadow be stocking this?:

All-in one with 50W MOSFET amp, CD-PRO drive, USB connectivity, headphone and MP3 player jacks, tuner... If pricing is competitive it could see off most of the competition...
