It’s with a bit of a heavy heart I’m going to let my Michell Odyssey go. Essentially it’s a limited edition Gyrodeck Michell produced as an homage to John Michell and his engineering excellence, who at the beginning of his career built the Discovery spacecraft for Stanley Kubrick's classic movie '2001 A space Odyssey‘.

Based on the Gyrodec, the Michell Odyssey was produced in an all black finish, with a black acrylic base and the signature weights suspended below the platter being nickel silver rather than the usual gold. The black damped chassis sits on a clear acrylic spider to give a second level of isolation as found on the Orbe. It also comes with a metallic grey HR power supply.

The deck has a SME armboard fitted along with the following mods: Michell decoupling kit, Petes pylons, Petes feet, a brass pulley and an Orbe clamp kit.

100 of these decks were made in 2004 and this is number 100.

I really don’t want to let it go, but it’s sat doing nothing and they’re not small things to have just sat in the house. I’d prefer someone else to enjoy it as much as I have.

Will need to be collected, I’m near Junction 25 of the M1 near Nottingham. £1900 for this little piece of history.

Price change to £1900, after speaking with a few people this seems more accurate.

Kind of don’t want it to sell if I’m honest, it’s such a lovely thing I might just box it up and store it in the vain hope I can run a 2nd TT one day.

Beautiful deck! I’m tied between streamer or deck at the moment as I sold mine some years ago but still have hundreds of LPs. This has made my conundrum harder as I was leaning towards streamer 😅

I’ve been on the streamer journey this year and trust me you have to spend a hell of a lot to get something that matches a good vinyl set up

just a quick question - the original items are included (the ones you've upgraded from)?

Yeah it’s a minefield. I’ve been using CD for so long now and I love it. I do think Auralic make some nice sounding kit in the streaming world. Vinyl is special though. I sold my vinyl setup some time ago and really regret it.

Totally agree, nothing like putting a record on 😁

I've decided I'm going to keep it. I know I'll regret it if it goes and one day I may persuade my better half to let me have a 2nd system in the living room :)
