I'd echo that sentiment. It seems logical. But there may be more to it...Metatron, this is partly to do with Mrs BTA but if I knew I could get a transport that matches or betters my NAS then I would consider getting one for my pleasure too. However the scores on the doors don’t seem promising.
Based on my personal experience, I'd not have a hang-up about trying a Naim CD5XS, when possible. I think you and your wife will be pleasantly surprised. I am sure somebody on the WAM probably has one and could visit you for a day of listening to tunes and set it up in your system, before you have to go find funds for one.
FWIW, I am on the lookout for a used Naim CD5XS at a good price myself. Not only does it have a transport mech (VAM1205) I know is excellent and common to some of the best CD players I ever heard, but it also uses the same DAC chip that is common to CD players of old that I liked best, and often still prefer to modern DACs: the Burr Brown PCM1704K.
