Dear all,

Does anybody have a copy of, or a link to the review of the Yamaha CDRH1500 Compact disc/HDD recorder. I believe the review was in issue 278 of HFC magazine , so not that long ago.

Please e-mail or PM if you can help

I own one of these jobbies, and if it's any use, have reviewed it on page 6 of the equipment reviews pages. I'd be very happy to pass on what I know if you want.

(ps) It'll be for sale in less than a month, since it's now done it's job of archiving my LP collection to CD....any interest?

Thanks for that Rockmeister,

I'll go and take a look. Don't even ask me why i want a CD recorder, especially when i have access to 2 laptop and 3 desktop computers in the house , all of them fitted with DVD/CD burners.

I have been wanting a new CD player for quite some time and now i have the cash ( circa £600) that my wife kindly donated to me. I'm only looking at two models at the moment The Yam and the Tascam CD-RW 900. I like the look and feel of Pro audio stuff which is why I'm attracted to the Tascam, although with most of my CD collection and some of my Vinyl stored on the Yam there is a lot more chance of my just sitting down and listenening to music , rather than tinkering with settings.

I could also archive most of my CD collection to a remte location ( the loft) and just keep one rack of faves downstairs.

One other big Question; Will the Yam record from the digital output of a DVD player ?( stereo PCM output at 48 khz) . If it can it would be a great way of extracting the audio from some of my fave music vid's.

okay...reading from the book...records PCM only

has analogue, optical and coaxial inputs

all recording levels are manually adjustable

specs state that:

analogue line in is 500mv/24kohms

digital (opt) is not quoted

coaxial says: 0.5 Vp-p(75Kohms)

machine supports input sampling rates of 32/44.1/48 and 96Khz converting them to 44.1 16bit digital signals.

is that helpful??

Yeah,

I currently use a DVD player as a CD transport into a stereo DAC. The DVD digital output is set to Stereo PCM at 48K and my DAC works with this sigal no problem. Basically i should be able to record my music DVD's. If you've ever tried extracting the audio from a DVD on a computer you will know waht a complicated total PITA it can be....

I can't make a decision to save my life. I've been wanting a new CDP for ages and now i have the money i can't choose which bloody one...

Oh, my original comments were that I had an electronic copy of the HFC review and if S&C wanted it. Then I changed my mind (as usual:D)

Sid, I hope you'll enjoy RM's Yammy after Boxing Day. It looks like a nice unit.
