Thought this might be interesting since most of us are never likely to get the opportunity to appear on this classic radio program. Most of you will know the format. 8 Tracks that you can take on the island and an idea of why you have chosen them. You get The Complete works of Shakespeare, The Bible, another book and a luxury item.
For the sake of avoiding argument on a hifi forum we shall assume that the system of your choice just happens to be there, so no need to tell us what it is!
So my eight tracks.
1. Firestarter the Prodigy.
For years this was my finished work, time to PARTY track and I am going to need something to get me going in the morning.
2. Mr Bo Jangles Sammy Davies Junior.
Pure sentimentality it was my fathers favourite song and I inherited it from him.
3. This Charming Man The Smiths.
Apart from loving the song, the line " I would go out tonight but I have not got a stitch to wear" is always going to make me smirk on a desert island!
4. Danse Macabre Saint Saens.
My favourite piece of Classical Music and the added bonus of being able to do my mad conductor impersonation without an audience.
5. The Four Seasons (winter) Vivaldi.
There is a small part of this that played loud always brings the hairs up on the back of my neck, love it.
6. Men of Harlech. ( in Welsh)
Everybody likes a good sing along, and I was taught this on my Grandfathers knee, only song I can sing in welsh..
7. Pretty Vacant Sex Pistols.
Probably the first punk song I ever really liked and sparked a life long love of Punk and another great sing a long song screaming out Pretty Vacant at the world with the correct intonation!
8. Perfect Day. Lou Reed.
Speaks for it self I think, and always good to have a great bit of sax at the end of the day!
Book, I am going to take Roger Penrose The Road to Reality, no matter how many times I read it I always gain a bit more understanding.
Luxury Item Got to be a Telescope, what better place to sit and stare at the rest of the universe than a desert island.
Ok anybody else want to share their Desert Island Discs?
