How's that for after sales support?

The other day, my amp (a Gato Dia-250) decided it was bored with its role in life and died.

Oh dear, how unfortunate (a rough translation of the mardy fit that ensued).

Having bought the amp used, I readied myself for an eye-gouging repair bill.

I emailed Gato and explained what had happened. They asked for the serial number and the name of the dealer I bought it from - I told them it was bought secondhand (not from a dealer).

Gato responded by asking me to send the amp back to them in Denmark and they would repair and return it free of charge.

How bloody brilliant is that?

The chaps at Gato have just replaced Lego as my favourite Danes.

That's fantastic. Wish all manufacturers were so Carlsberg.

Good news, whats cheaper, parcel to Denmark or a cheap flight and pushing the hand luggage limit?

It certainly isn't going to be cheap to post a 12 kilo parcel to Denmark. Even insuring it for its used value is dear.

That said, an awful lot cheaper than some of the horror stories I've heard regarding repair estimates.

I looked at a few options - probably going to cost about £80 fully insured, but I can live with that.

I worked with a Danish company for a few years several years ago. Always straight down the line, customer service out of the top draw. A real treat to work with. Sèems it'sa national trait.

Unlike amplifiers, Lego doesn't break. We've still got bricks I had as a child. They are over 40 years old - indestructible, no problems at all. That's great design. The longboats they used in the raping and pillaging days were also very good - and those woodworking skills translated beautifully into contemporary furniture. Quite a design powerhouse, really.

Oh, and bacon...
