Tom Evans The Finestra Preamplifier

Recommended Posts

I remember that these were quite good in their day, don't know if this is over priced or not. I think i had one with a ECA Lectern power amp or Audio Innovations 800 mark III many moons ago.

I had one yonks ago.  Detailed, but too bright for me, not agressive bright but definitely a lift in the treble. Nicely made.  the one I had had a MC stage in it, this one is without.  If you want one, get one with the MM or MC stage in it.

Also had one driving EAR 519 mono's,last one I saw for sale was £250 with the phono stage which to me would seem about right, way overpriced IMO.

Did you get it? Might be looking for a new pre soon and there’s one on the bay, but it’s expensive!

The current Finestra on Ebay has a built in MC phono stage but as already mentioned it does seem expensive . I believe the Finestra was produced around 1985 and was his first commercial design and pre-dates the Argo.  The power supplies that come with Finestra, and Argo are not DC but simply transformers in a box designed to distance the transformers magnetic fields from the preamp.

A bit too steep to take a punt on I think, I’ll keep my eye out for one now I know about them though

Hi,

Still got one of these somewhere. Quite like it. In fact, it made an appearance at the first Scalford.

I had a one without a phono stage then bought one with a MC stage.

Do you still have it? Might be worth a few bob!
