New album releases

Recommended Posts

Vinyl reissue specialists Be With are releasing this criminally under appreciated classic from 1996 on 25th June. Highly praised by critics at the time, David Bowie even rocked up to a TV interview declaring it as "the most exciting sound of contemporary soul music", it then disappeared without trace as did Lewis Taylor himself. Stylistically I'd say this is a cross between D'Angelo and the more psychedelic output of Shuggie Otis. Another plus is that Be With's pressing/mastering is consistently top notch so sound quality should be excellent.

Whoop whoop, back of the net!!

I today scored myself some tix's for the californian soul tour of this live at the backend of the year 😁😁😁

Today's ones were at face value on general release.

I just missed out on completing on my purchase for pre-release album sales when Ticketmaster crashed on Tues. I.got a bit excited and paid £213 for two tix on viagogo. Now I can resell those.

The gig lands near my bday and I've not seen a live band since valentines last year. Swanky hotel booked, kids out overnight as we'll all be vaxxed up by then.

Happy days!!!!

Following its previous reissue series from Singers & Players, African Headcharge and Creation Rebel, 19th March sees the On-U label re-release the 5 individual LPs from New Age Steppers as well as a 5 CD Box. The band, a loose collective of UK post-punk and Jamaican reggae artists, launched the label all the way back in 1981 and introduced the world to the production genius that is Adrian Sherwood.

This has the potential to be one of my musical highlights of this year. A collaboration between ambient/electronic producer Sam Shepherd a.k.a. Floating Points, legendary spiritual jazz sax man Pharoah Saunders and The London Symphony Orchestra. Due for release 26th March on David Byrne's Luaka Bop label.floating-points-pharoah-sanders-the-london-symphony-orchestra-promises-lb97cd.jpg

So it came out and is as good as expected. Early candidate for an album of the year. What did you think?

One from earlier this year that I missed. Back from late January.

New release from Steven Wilson "The Future Bites". Must admit I prefer his previous album but this is still very good.

Next up, awaiting a release of a long play. I've been obsessing over this song since I first heard it a couple of days ago.

Silk Sonic with Leave the Door Open. If the rest of the album is as good as this single I can't see a better album coming out soon. Absolute masterclass in composition and production.

It's cheesy, it's smokey, it's hot. It's what we all needed a little bit of 70's. Love it!!!!!!!
