wireless headphones around the £100 mark

Recommended Posts

Hi all

It's my brother's birthday and I was thinking of getting him a set of headphones, ideally wireless but would consider wired if options are better.

He's most likely to use with an iPhone and has a 2-channel amp and speakers for his TV so the ability to use both cable and bluetooth would be useful.   I think the amp is a Yamaha AS-301 (I can't easily check without giving the game away - it's definitely a yamaha he bought from Richer Sounds for less than £200 and accepts an optical input from his sky box) which I don't think has native bluetooth.  He usually listens to indie music, if that makes any odds.

I was looking at the AKG Y500 (£130 but currently £30 cashback) but unclear if these can run as wired.  Recommendations appreciated, it might be I'm being too hopeful to get a decent set of bluetooth headphones for this price so  also recommendations for good wired headphones would be gratefully received.

Cheers

If he uses them out and about, will he want/need noise cancellation? if you do Lindy BNX-60 are very good value for money. I had a set for a while and for the money they would be tough to beat.

£88 delivered

How are they? I'm tempted... have logged on and may suddenly spend £100. That's an expensive 5 mins!!!

I've had some B&W in ears, one of many pairs I own, but these broke recently. They were my fav day to day pair.

My question is around bluetooth. Is it any good SQ?

I've got the Sennheiser Momentum 3s and they definitely like a bit of power up them; in Bluetooth mode the bass is more tentative and there's a little drop in higher frequencies. Max output in Bluetooth mode is also quoted as a few dB lower. They're only good for 1.5 hours too. As soon as you plug them into the Fiio you get a grip and depth of bass. Great at work if you just have to jump out and attend to something without carting the phone and amp with you though so worth every p for me.
