Room acoustic treatment

Recommended Posts

Okay ... we all know that rooms play a major role in the quality of sound we can extract from our hifi system. If acoustic panels, diffusers, bass traps are too expensive ... be CREATIVE! 😂🤣

Its Friday! Have a blast!!!

You’re likely to have dead treble and boomy bass with that little lot I’m afraid. Of course the aesthetics are in the eye of the beholder...

Was meant for shits and giggles only ... But seriously ... treble was not dead, bass not boomy. Soundstage sounded just a smidge better. Just a smidge.

I had a laugh for sure - mission accomplished! You don’t list you system in your Wam info, but it doesn’t look like a budget system to me. I think it is a myth that acoustic treatment needs to be ugly and expensive, as it can enhance the look of the room better the piled up cushions do and costing no more than people tend to spend on cables or other tweaks.

I’ll go update on my info. My system is:

Speakers - Marten Duke 2

Amplifier - Audia Flight FLS10

Preamp - Cary Audio SLP 05 with NOS valves (not set up as I was so duh to bring it back from repair shop without the power umbilical)

Streamer - Mytek Brooklyn Bridge

CD player - Cary Audio CD500

Speaker cable - Nordost Blue Heaven (bought as eye candy)

Interconnect - nothing expensive, entry level Chord Company stuff

I find the shop solution to be either expensive or it is affordable but not so effective. How will those simple 50mm thick foam panels help kill bass?

Home made solutions prob work better. Frankly, firm thick pillows will be great as bass traps.

Good Afternoon All,

GIK Acoustics are quoting me £976.20 for a Room Kit 3 + one extra 242 Acoustic Panel c/w two sets of ceiling mounts, these will be supplied in one of the 'extra' colours, so just over 1.5% of the insurance replacement value of my system.............

Regards

Richard

Before I purchased anything I would acoustically measure the room.

What would that tell you? It is useful for finding remaining bass problems when you've treated the room, but not when starting in my opinion. You'll just be blinded with incomprehensible graphs.

REW, shows you everything ,

to purchase room treatment without measuring is in my opinion a waste of money.

I would no more tune a room based on measurements than I would buy a speaker based on just measurements. REW won't tell you where the first points of reflection are, or even what are first points of reflection.

You cant expect to acoustically treat a room without doing some reading and getting advice from companies like GIK. But rooms are not that different and a starting point doesn't require measurements, just following recommendations and listening.
