I thought this a good video. PMC are seriously over priced. I sold my PB1's when i discovered the midrange was a plastic Vifa unit that can be bought for roughly £70.

While I’d be the first to say that component cost is notoriously misleading way to value a complete loudspeaker, I’m afraid I have to agree that PMC have lost the plot with their pricing.  And that metal panel with the crossover is just for show, surely?  Their 25i.26 three-way is roughly equivalent to my ATC SCM40s.  The PMC is just under £9000.  My ATCs are due to go up to £3950 from 1 May.  And look at the ATC drivers.  In this mid-range, the magnet is almost wider than the chassis!

I bet your ATC's are way better at half the price. £9000 is an absolutely insane amount of money, especially when you look at what you get. PMC must come up with prices off the top of their head. The only PMC i would now buy are the SE range, and second hand. But i really want to try ATC.

I have PMC IB2 SE's.  Fantastic speakers, super revealing, musical, able to go way louder than I could ever want with no distortion, sound great even at low volumes.  ATC make amazing speakers too.  If I had been a little more sensible I'd have got SCM 50's as they are truly fantastic.  Active SCM 40's are brilliant, can't go wrong with either of these B|

IB2 Is the model in PMC's range i would buy. But the competition would be against ATC SCM50

Both excellent, both very different, possibly the biggest deciding factor would be the room.

Yes, a home demo would be essential

Why is it a good video and how does it prove PMCs are over-priced, exactly?

And the room decides whether you can handle the extra octave of bass from the PMCs, for me their main selling point.

I've had the mid out from my BB5is, you wouldn't want to drop that on your toe!

IIRC this is the model the Fact 12 was designed to replicate and they make a damn good attempt at it. They sound twice their size. I dare say the SCM50 would have the edge there but could I live with them? No.

The Twenty5 26i costs more than a pair of used Fact 12 to put the current pricing in perspective. That's a no brainer. PMC have indeed got a bit carried away.

Two very different speakers, the IB2 handles a lot more power and bass and peaks substantially louder.

Make sure you audition at concert volume if you ever feel you might purchase on that opinion.

The drive units don’t look like what you’d expect for a speaker costing £4K-£5k. Look at the comparison between the engineering that goes into something like ATC vs PMC. Look at the size of the magnet assembly on my old FB1i - how they are meant to handle 250w I do not know. Whereas ATCs bass unit could be from a high powered subwoofer or something - massive over engineered magnet assembly

This is the inside of Fact8. I was considering these in 2009.

That’s the non sl version. The sl one is even larger.

When you put two pictures such as these as a direct comparison it's shocking. The PMC drive unit looks very feeble.
