Where was your Hifi made ?

Recommended Posts

I’m wondering if we’re biased over here ( towards British gear )
Do we automatically poo poo gear because of where it’s made.
(Hope this wasn’t asked before)
Here’s mine to kick it off ( main system)

Speakers- British
Preamp- American
Dac - American
Monoblocks ( or power amp - British

It's normally cheaper to buy local and we should do so for economic and environmental reasons. Also there seems to be a UK 'sound' as other countries have their own 'sound'. Marantz sometimes do UK versions of products.

I have a mixture of Japan, S Korea and UK.

T/T Japan

Tonearm/cartridge/phonostage UK

Streamer S Korea

Cassette decks Japan

Amp Japan

Speakers UK

And Hifi rack Austria

Wife Portuguese

I am Spanish but have a strong fascination of Japan

Loudspeakers - Troon (Scotland for the geographically inept)

Turntable - Troon

Arm - England

Cartridge - England

Preamp - USA

Amplifier - kit came from the USA assembled in England

Speaker switch - English (to connect to kitchen speakers)

CD player - would have been English but the Meridian died and is now replaced by a Japanese offering

Streamer -Japanese but English mods now discontinued

DAC probably China

Me - English (and one of the 1% of the population who can trace their lineage back in an unbroken chain)

Wife - English

Kids - English

The costs of the latter far outweigh the costs of hifi

Hifi Rack - England

In terms of money spent on the above 60% was on British goods :D

When it comes to speakers, never mind 'Buy British'', I've narrowed it down to brands from England:

Celestion

Wharfedale

Mission (when part of Cyrus)

B&W

Spendor

Proac

Kef

PMC

Certainly been a good industry for the country. And, from the above, all but Celestion continue to bring out new models.
