dari, March 29 in Classical
First time I've ventured into this forum sub-section, saw this upsetting information. I can remember listening to Threnody in my music classes at secondary school. I loved classical music anyway, but hearing this for the first time was an eye-opener for me. I'd never come across anything remotely like it, and it had a fundamental impact on my understanding of music, and my emotional response. How incredibly well it conveys the sheer horror of that awful world event - despite being familiar with pieces like "Flight of the Bumblebee" and how an orchestra could mimick or abstractly represent things, Threnody was on another level altogether.
I shall go and investigate some of his other works now. Shame it takes such an event to show me what I've been missing
