For sale is a Mercedes W204 C320 diesel in Palladium Silver with black interior and burr walnut trim. Good condition.
2008, 58 reg’, now showing 99k on the odometer which will not increase.
The car has been driven very gently in my ownership; I aim for mpg not mph. Owned since July 2017, I have put 50K on the clock, most of which was motorway commuting between Tewkesbury and Birmingham. During this time, the car has been perfectly reliable and required no work other than consumables and routine servicing. MOT until November 2020.
The V6 diesel pulls like a loco when called upon and makes a delicious growl whilst doing so. But it is also remarkably fuel efficient considering the 3.0L capacity and cylinder count. I have tended to average 44 to 47 mpg (measured at the pump). I saw 53.5 mpg average on the computer on a recent 100 mile run up to Nottingham (the OBC reading is pretty accurate). I don’t believe your average 2.0L, 4-cylinder diesel would be much better on fuel in a similar sized car, so no reason not to enjoy the improved refinement and power reserves of the V6. The ride is beautifully supple, comfortable and planted yet the car can confidently carve through the bends if so desired.

The car had three former keepers; I have retained the contact details of owners number 2 and 3 should you wish to enquire about the car’s history. The car cleared an HPI at the time I purchased and will do so again (you will probably wish to complete your own anyway). The mileage and documentation tally with the MOT history. Documented MB servicing at 20k, 26k, 40k. Another at 48k. In my ownership, it has received thorough and careful servicing at home using genuine MB parts on an annual schedule. There is a good-sized wad of paperwork demonstrating the history, also the MB book packs and two keys are present.
At the beginning of my ownership, I had the EGR deactivated in the ECU. From my research, the OM642 motor is generally very reliable, but the EGR clogging the intake system with soot was one of the few potential issues highlighted. The new owner will not have this concern. I always used quality branded diesel and around every fourth / fifth tank I fill with premium diesel to help keep the fuel system clean.

Fitted with four matching premium tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1), the fronts are probably good for another 30k miles (est. 4 mm tread), the rears will need replacing within a year (est. 2 or 3 mm). Good tyres are not expensive at this size. The paintwork scrubs up very well, and the car makes a good first impression. However, there are a few minor chips, cracks and scuffs here and there on bumpers and wheels commensurate with the age and mileage. No rust. The most immediately obvious imperfection is a parking dent (confined to an area of a few cm) above the left rear lamp –caused by a careless driver who fled the scene without confessing (grrr). Also, a crack in the passenger door mirror cowling from where it has taken a knock (again, not my fault); this has been glued up and is solid. Both rear wheels are a little scruffy, if I am honest – this is due to flaking paint and there is minimal kerbing damage or corrosion. Overall, I rate the exterior as good to fair. It will certainly not disgrace the driveway.

The interior is in excellent, clean condition. The more observant buyer might notice some scratching to the front door levers and two very tiny dings to the trim on the transmission tunnel.

Mechanics & electrics
The car is excellent mechanically. The engine starts easily in any weather, idles evenly and does not smoke at any time. Pulls strongly. No leaks in engine bay. Gearbox changes smoothly, no abnormal noises from the suspension. Steers and brakes straight. Even wear pattern on tyres. No warning lights displayed, past, present or intermittent. I would be happy to plug in an OBD reader to show the new owner no systems faults (past, pending or present) are logged. New front discs in 2018 (Brembo), very little wear on any corner. This a pre- DPF engine, so no anxiety around that system going wrong.
The only faults I am aware of are that the ‘one-touch’ function for raising the driver’s window is inoperative – it is necessary to keep the window switch pulled up for a second or two. Also, I think the heating / dimming may not working on the door mirror which is cracked.
This is a solid car with no concerning issues that has the potential for another 400,000 miles.
